In 2018, a contest was called to create a hiking route between Mudan and Sandiaoling that included 2 historic railway tunnels and a connection, to be invented, to replace the bridge over the Keelung River washed away by floods.
The plot for which the project was commissioned is positioned in a theoretical second line with respect to the sea, so one of the client’s requests was to find visual focal points towards the coast. For this, it was proposed that the entire house be suspended over the natural terrain through a structure of wooden pillars and diagonals, with enough meters to achieve the objective.
The project consists of the rehabilitation of an old house located in the center of Sabadell. It is a typical location in the city where we find narrow plots facing two streets. The neighborhood is characterized by small buildings between party walls on the ground floor or the ground floor and upper floor.
A way of life. Life in the old Paraguayan houses took place in the intermediate spaces that were unique to them. Sheltered from the light but in contact with the open air that circulated, the gathering and the round of tereré took place peacefully. Everything happened in the gallery, reminiscences of a time past under the trees.

The design of this house posed a particular challenge: to distribute, at the request of the clients, a large program on the ground floor of a triangular lot that, despite its extensive front, did not offer a large rear space. To optimize the garden, it was decided to implant the ground floor in two separate bars: one against the front with the common areas and services such as dining room, gallery, kitchen, grill, machinery room, and laundry, and the other, located against the side setback for the rest area, where the master bedroom with ensuite bathroom and dressing room are located.
The House Among Gardens is a 280m2 residence located in the Cumbayá Valley, 20 minutes from Quito.
