Located in the bustling metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City, the most populous city in Vietnam, this restaurant project aims to create a unique atmosphere that feels close to nature, starkly contrasting with its urban surroundings to attract diners. Inspired by the native tropical rainforest, the design offers a serene, refreshing experience that connects people with nature.
Located in downtown Lisbon in the DGPC’s Urban Rehabilitation Area and Property Protection Zone, this multi-family housing building has been subject to various extensions and alterations over the years, depriving it of its original character and historical identity.
The design for the house for a brother, a young couple with three small children, was very clear and aligned with the expectations for homes in this type of private neighborhood. The layout proposed a clear distinction between three zones within the house, each with a specific purpose.
Since its inception, the publishing institute – naïve has set up bookstores in several cities that accommodate books and coffee to intrigue readers’ behaviors within its conceptualized space. On a snowfield of Aranya Chongli in northern China, atelier tao+c conceived the new naïve bookstore as a luminous space in the midst of ice and snow, seamlessly integrated with the surrounding landscape, climate and nature. The existing site is a bare concrete space of about 400 sqm with a partially double height ceiling, next to the snow-covered slopes and firtree forest on the south side.
The place is a plot in the middle of the Chocó forest in Ecuador, which used to function as a warehouse and clandestine cockfights. First, this warehouse is rethought into a refuge for connection, awareness, and rehabilitation of the endemic forest. To achieve this sensitivity of the place, the concept of Irori was chosen as the guideline for design and emphasis on understanding the phenomenology in architecture, promoting spaces designed for actions and sensitivities rooted in collective memory.
The Casa Castanheiras, conceived in 2021, emerges with the mission of providing a welcoming and practical space, perfectly integrated with nature, ideal for celebrating special moments with family and friends. Located in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, the residence offers the desired tranquility to the family, while remaining close to the center of the state capital. Implementing the house was challenging, having to meet two important legal restrictions. The first, is the servitude area determined by the presence of a high-voltage line from Cemig, leaving only 27 meters of available land from the sidewalk to the beginning of the strip. The second is the obligation to preserve the patch of trees, previously approved by the Secretariat of Environment of Minas Gerais, which occupied the land.
Espacio B is a redevelopment project of a former industrial warehouse located in the City of Buenos Aires. This building, which once contained a publishing house, has been transformed into a hybrid space for living and working, promoting well-being and balance with the surrounding environment.
The seedling house built in the Fazendinha informal settlement located in the Calafate neighborhood in Belo Horizonte – Brazil, is the result of an academic practice promoted by the Project Department of the School of Architecture at the Federal University of Minas Gerais and coordinated by Professor Hugo Matos. The activity included the conception, fabrication, and assembly of a small wooden structure, carried out jointly by students, technicians, supporters, and community residents.
The plot with a 37-meter frontage, narrowing along its 117-meter length, combined with the substantial setback restrictions of the condominium, were not the only challenges for the project’s implementation. An “Italo-country village…” This is how we could define the highly detailed briefing from the clients. Right at the entrance of the plot, two volumes create a plaza without walls or railings, and the three-meter cantilevered marquee forms the “port cochère,” marking the entrance.
The concept originated from the quest for a centrally located house with a courtyard in the city, aiming to avoid relocating to the outskirts while still maintaining privacy and adapting to the characteristics of urban land. Situated on an unconventional lot in Rosario, the house has a narrow front of 3.40 meters that widens towards the center of the block, where a neighborhood mechanic workshop previously operated. The goal is for the house to blend in and act as a refuge within its context.
