The School of Planning and Architecture, Vijayawada, attempts to make the campus an institutional centre in the city of Vijayawada. The institutional building is a platform for debate, exchange and dissemination and becomes a deep gateway and an interface to the entire campus. The Institute draws on the austere ideologies from Brutalism as a form of expression as a response to the extreme climate, and positions it contextually in Vijayawada.

This pool house and spa is constructed into the side of a mountain at the point where it meets the St. Lawrence River valley floor. Built for a discerning client on his rural property west of Montreal, this seemingly simple structure is intricately crafted. This is a minimalist project, inspired by Mies van der Rohe’s 1929 Barcelona Pavilion, which established the grammar for this elemental modern architecture.

Longba Town is composed by 19 villages, which do not possess a decent market. Groceries are locate along the the town’s only main road, and livestock are often slaughtered in the streets, spilling blood on the ground directly. Face such a situation, the government has set aside a small plot of vegetable land to build a market of about 2,500 square meters, which provides a high-quality shopping environment for residents, as well as hosts the annually festival and other activities. Therefore, it is not only a daily market serving the town, but also a festive place radiating the whole county. It should be convenient and comfortable, and also, it needs to have certain publicity.

The ArchiWorkshop foundation building was built on Yeonhui-ro, which is parallel to Ansan in Seoul. Most of the area is made up of type-1 residential districts, making it a quiet and comfortable residential area. With the recent acceleration in development of the Yeonnam-dong area, movements are also taking place in Yeonhui-dong is to reflect neighborhood-like atmospheres. Places made of neighborhood shops, rather than franchises, such as handicraft shops, craft coffee shops, craft beer shops, and Saruga markets (a local market brand) are creating Yeonhui-dong’s culture of high quality and originality.

This home, overlooking the fairways and surrounds of Sorrento Golf Club was designed for a couple planning to return to Australia after many years overseas. One of the clients grew up in an old Merchant Home on the site and holidayed there during childhood. Our response was to effectively create a luxury suite at the upper level, including an elevated garden and cantilevered pool. The home is constructed deep into the hillside with outstanding views of the golf course and beyond. We describe the architecture as a kind of sophisticated beach house which incorporates the kind of modern expectations, however, at a very basic level –this is a beach house, that incorporates cross ventilation pathways through it at both levels, with framed garden outlooks and a significant focus on the experience of natural light. Protected outdoor spaces are offered and emerging around the building is a landscape that extends the coastal dune flora typical of the area.
