GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Montalván Pottery Factory finished its production as a ceramic’s factory in 2012. After its closure and new acquisition, it has been transformed for a new use: Hotel and Restaurant. The building has been built where the ancient Montalván pottery factory in Seville was settled, in the neighborhood of Triana.
A teacher who wanted to convert her existing family home into a multi-generation home to accommodate their growing needs, commissioned the residence. This was an interesting project for the Studio as it was an observation on Delhi’s common builder floor homes. The resultant was thus two independent apartments spread over four floors.
Building above an access road creates a new site. The retained passage leads off a typical Victorian street and accesses the Tin House. The surrounding street facades are brick and a load bearing brick arch within a building that respects the building lines and parapet heights, fills an unattractive gap and provides an additional new dwelling.
Casa Puebla displays a concept towards inside life concept where the visual and recurring motif is the Popocatépetl volcano, one of the most important natural icons in central Mexico.
The LEED Gold building incorporates the abandoned Whitehall warehouse, a massive, utilitarian structure of concrete, brick, and glass. The grid of the warehouse is maintained in the new building, with each bay defining separate townhomes on Charles and West 10th Streets. Individual, residential entries create new connections at the street level, activating the sidewalk with foot traffic. Retaining the streetwall as both a connection to the pedestrian scale and the neighborhood’s past, 150 Charles creates a vibrant streetscape and the highest-quality living environment for its residents.
This project is study of environment and experience. The home itself is secondary. With views to the west that are uninterrupted Puget Sound, San Juan Islands and Olympic Mountain Range, the experience exists regardless of the home. We had to maintain this environment with minimal intrusion when adding the structure. It is hard to discount the fact that we had a great opportunity to destroy this site if we weren’t considerate and thoughtful.
H.D. House has two floors. The beams, pillars and slabs of the lower floor are of reinforced concrete, and the walls are made with masonry of aerated concrete blocks, which are very effective considering thermal improvement. The second level is built with a Metalcon system of galvanized steel profiles and covered with walls ventilated with wood to improve their thermal resistance. The roof is also made of Metalcon, with a cover of pv4 sheets with polyurethane that resists the high radiation that affects on the roof.

Estudio Flume has recently completed a beekeeper’s workshop in the Brazilian Amazonia for the Associação dos Apicultores de Canaã dos Carajás.
