MVRDV design adds glass fins with fluid curves to the façade of Tiffany & Co.’s flagship store in Beijing — A new Tiffany & Co. flagship store has opened in the Taikoo-Li Sanlitun commercial neighbourhood in Beijing, with a façade of curving, translucent glass fins that add an ethereal presence to the building. With its flowing shapes inspired by the masterpieces of jewellery designer Elsa Peretti, the Beijing store is the fifth in a series of façade designs created by MVRDV for Tiffany, introducing a new design motif that reflects the pursuit of innovative materials and expressive three-dimensional form that characterises each design in the series.

Verdant Ridges / Wutopia Lab

The site was originally home to the Xinguang Silk Weaving Factory. The renovated Building No. 5 has now been transformed into a versatile theater, seamlessly integrating Suzhou-style stage performances with medium-sized conferences. In architectural renovation, the common approaches typically fall into two categories: completely redesigning parts of the structure or preserving its original form as much as possible. Wutopia Lab seeks to break free from this binary and explore a new path. Inspired by the dramatic life of Tang Bohu, we go beyond merely preserving the historical depth of the old building—we breathe new artistic life into it.

The design responds to its condition of being “present yet unseen,” while creating a tea space suited for contemporary socialization, balancing privacy and shared experience.

Defining the spatial identity of an overseas brand that deals with delicate fragrances is a profound challenge. In this project, we turned to the philosophy of ‘Daegang (大綱)’. SIGMA Space / ONOAA STUDIO

January 18, 2026 韩爽 - HAN Shuang 0

“Like water through a river” — a phrase used by SIGMA founder Michihiro Yamaki — describes the Aizu factory’s camera and lens production: continuous, precise, and tightly connected, like flowing water. Restraint and prudence come from logical thinking, while warmth reflects intention carried through time. ONOAA STUDIO sought to translate this spirit into a space as pure as water, tucked beside a quiet garden yet adjacent to the city’s bustle. SIGMA’s philosophy, “Beyond the technology, is Art,” became a central thread throughout the planning and design.
