The building is located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul’s representative commercial district. The surrounding area was a form of coexistence of residential and commercial facilities. Prior to the design, we thought about various aspects such as the possibility of the site, the sustainability of the construction, and the environmental issues of the construction waste.
Located 400m from Sydney Harbour, the heritage-listed former Department of Education building, part of the historic Sandstone Precinct, has reopened as the 5-star Capella Sydney Hotel. Make Architects was appointed by Pontiac Land Group to sensitively restore and remodel this former Edwardian Baroque-style governmental landmark for new uses, significantly opening the ground floor to be fully accessible to the public for the first time, with BAR Studio designing the refined new interiors throughout the hotel.
The AB House is a double-height unit located on the fifth floor of an apartment in Pingtung City, our first house as architectural designers, the two of us and a baby. The unit was bought when the apartment was still under construction. We had the opportunity to alter the original 4-bedroom layout to better appreciate the natural light and ventilation the unit is gifted with.
エンゼル (Angel) was a popular tuna restaurant in Misaki, south end of the Kanagawa Prefecture. It was known and appreciated by the whole community, thanks to its location next to the harbour which provided a daily supply of fresh quality fish and seafood products. It wasn’t a mere spot where to eat it was the gathering place around which the locals of every generation spent their time and created the foundations for the village to build its identity. Unfortunately, though, the restaurant closed several years ago, leaving a void in the town that was seeking a replacement.
The project focuses on an apartment located in Barreiro, which belonged to the pioneer of Portuguese photography and cinematography, Augusto Cabrita, who used to say during his lifetime that “simplicity was the pinnacle of intelligence.”
By naming the project Burgatoi we make our own a term from the nautical world that refers to a piece of curved wood used in the construction of a ship. The idea is to make a simile with the curved construction of the living space in this house.
NL Home is a house and personal sandbox. It is designed as a series of work-in-progress spaces to work, play and experiment. It is located in the heart of the old part of Rotterdam, close to the city center surrounded by old buildings from the early 19th century. This is a house with a story to tell. Removing all the layers accumulated over the years and restoring the original materials gave a nod to the house’s past and defined the character of the interior.
Magri Williams has renovated and extended a family house in South London. The project was designed to be completed in two stages. Firstly a full house renovation; and secondly, and a year after the completion of the previous stage, a side extension.
This is an interior renovation project of a dwelling unit in a 40-year-old apartment building in Tokyo. The unit with around 70 square meters is renovated as a residence for a couple and a child, plus an office space for the husband.
Creating clarity: Belgian architect Tom Thys has given new life to the Aristo House. This historical building dates back to 1914 and is situated on a slope of the Trigno Valley with a fantastic view over the hills, woods and fields of Abruzzo.
