Alma House Renovation / iHouse estudio

August 26, 2023 Benjamin Zapico 0

This project arrived as a particular commission to the studio by the clients who presented us with the challenge of reforming a traditional property located in the heritage neighborhood of Prado in Montevideo to convert it into their permanent residence. Despite being dedicated to housing and prefabricated modular constructions, we are always open to new challenges, which is why this proposal that was out of the ordinary captivated us with the rigor of facing a world that we already knew but that we had not manipulated for a long time: traditional on-site construction.

For our clients in Lebbeke, we set to work on their existing homes. The layout of the house needed to be rethought to improve its circulation. With 2 teenagers growing up, there was also the need for more space and a new, practical bathroom.

We often say that there are only two types of museums: a museum in the park, embedded in the tranquility of nature, and a museum in the city, implanted within the energy of urbanism. The Buffalo AKG Art Museum is both. It sits at the northern edge of the historic Delaware Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted. The city is known for its history of industrial revolution and the current revitalization of remnants from that past. It has a rich architectural history—from silos and manufacturing facilities to buildings by Eero Saarinen, Louis Sullivan, and Frank Lloyd Wright.

The White Renovation Office Building / Olgooco

August 22, 2023 Pilar Caballero 0

Between the urban facades of a busy street in the heart of Tehran’s office zone, a 35-year-old building begins its new life behind a white veil wrapped around it. The new users of the building, which are the administrative offices of a headquarters, are placed in the space between an old concrete structure and contemporary white objects and look at the white mask through a green balcony. Because the new owners failed to buy the existing bank, building Weight Loss was put on the agenda as the only possible solution to help the existing structure, and finally this whole process turned into a building design scenario; and the production of a large amount of construction waste was prevented.

In St. Urban, around the old monastery complex, there is a hairdresser, a gas station and the former monastery bakery. The village consists of about 300 houses, divided into two quarters. In the center sits the large, empty monastery complex. “Das Haus mit einem Pfeiler” stands at the end of a wide neighborhood street and is built over-corner to an existing house from the 1980s.

Kamakura House / ROOVICE

This private house was originally built back in 1991 and is situated in Ōmachi, a locality in the historical city of Kamakura in the Kanagawa Prefecture. The building is placed on a hillside surrounded by nature, resulting in beautiful landscapes in every direction faced at. Before the modernization, the kitchen, living, and Japanese-style rooms were all separated in their own enclosed area. This fragmentation spoiled the efficiency of the surface and created a complicated circulation inside.

The project takes place in a difficult social context in Evreux suburbs. The small space of 13 m² was in bad condition and needed a total refurbishment. The positive point of the space is the floor of the big window to ceiling that occupies half of the facade’s wall.
