Clients were looking for a larger apartment for their family of 5. With 3 teenage daughters, the main requirement was that each could have their own room and bathroom. The layout of the original space not only allowed for a renovation that met these needs but also offered the bonus of a brightly lit living room with floor-to-ceiling windows forming an L-shape and an exposed concrete ribbed slab that was hidden behind the plaster ceiling. Additionally, it made it possible to open up the kitchen to the living room with a generous island for cooking comfortably while still entertaining friends and family.
The over 300-year-old farmhouse, which is over 300 years old and stands on the edge of the protected village center, is designed as a single-roof farmhouse in which the living quarters, stable, and hayloft are united under one roof. The owners wanted an age-appropriate flat in the former hayloft that could be accessed at ground level so that the rest of the house could be rented out to a young family.
A former farmhouse complex in the heart of the village is renovated into a care home and ADMR’s offices. The farmhouse is divided into two parts. One is authentic and has been conserved for the project. The other part has been adapted into a fire station and will be demolished to host the new part.
The Sydney Opera House is a world-renowned architectural masterpiece, but by 2012, it was facing a series of problems, including end-of-life theatre machinery, poor acoustics, and accessibility issues. To address these issues, SOH CEO Louise Herron announced a “Decade of Renewal” leading up to the building’s 50th anniversary in 2023. ARM Architecture was appointed to the Concert Hall Renewal project, the last and largest of the renewal projects, commencing design work in 2015, with the Hall reopening in July 2022.

The site is adjacent to a steep slope on the outskirts of Namsan Mountain, facing the steep road leading from the former Yongsan Garrison to Huam-dong. This district, commonly known as “Haebangchon,” was initially formed as an elevated settlement for groups of refugees right after the liberation in 1945. Later, influenced by the distinct U.S. military culture near the Itaewon vicinity, a complex urban context emerged, intertwining with the development of commercial zones like Itaewon and Gyeongridan-gil in the post-2000 era. Although a developing commercial district began to take shape, primarily centered around the lower section of Sinheung Road, the vicinity around the Haebangchon Intersection near Huam-dong presents a somewhat quaint scenery, a blend of indigenous culture and the judicious integration of newcomers through emerging market revitalization projects.
Where the furrows of the fertile land reveal the stones of the subsoil, a simple and humble dwelling from the late 19th century rises. The imposing modesty of its gaze watches over the agricultural landscape and relates to it by opening its gaps to the territory.
BANCANG is located in EKA-Tianwu Park in Jinqiao District, Pudong New Area, Shanghai. The site was originally the warehouse of CSSC Marine Instrument Co., Ltd. in Shanghai – Warehouse 445 in the 60s. The overall planning and renovation design of the area was conducted as commissioned by the owner. As a pioneer renovation project in the park, it should not only have commercial reception and exhibition functions but also reflect the prospect of the park in the future. We respect the historical development and put the current sustainable development concept into it, integrating the old and the new parts to arouse the old buildings.
