The project brief called for the re-design of an inner city warehouse conversion in Camperdown, for a couple seeking a minimalist lifestyle with an interior to match. The clients, who work in design-related disciplines, sought to shed their home of unimportant accumulation and create a space free of clutter and visual pollution. Conceived of as a “concrete bunker”, the shell of the apartment has been informed by the designer’s penchant for Brutalist architecture. The principal intent was the creation of a pared back, geometric interior and a celebration of the neighborhood’s industrial heritage.
Casco Loft is an interior design project developed by FABRICations for one of the Superlofts Houthaven, in Amsterdam. The three stories dwelling takes advantage of the flexibility of the structure to deliver an innovative experience of a housing interior, in line with the resiliency principles of FABRICations. The design relies on a range of strategies that aim to privilege interaction and flexibility, encouraging shared activities and free use. Enclosed spaces, like the bedrooms, are minimized and strategically placed to leave visual and physical proximity of common spaces.
The client first approached us when he was looking for a solution to his 59 sqm loft in Porto Alegre, of which the floorplan did not reflect his desire to live with integrated spaces. The first strategy was to merge all the entrance floor areas, replacing the existing stair by a helicoidal staircase in the center of the project and incorporating the laundry to the kitchen woodwork.

The Candy Loft exists on the second story of a hard loft conversion on a busy street in Toronto’s downtown west end. StudioAC was asked by the client to design this loft space in a way that would create a feeling of privacy within the city.
