At the intersection of Anfu and Wukang roads in the former French Concession, you’ll find RAC Bar & Coffee. The locale has been long-known for its many Western restaurants and desirably central location – that also means the standards for design in this area are higher. The owners of RAC aimed to stand out with their authentically French vibe, speciality coffee, French pastries, crepes and organic wines.

The project finds its location on the top of the No. 1 building in “Jinhuan Huizhi Tiandi”, which positions on Yongdeng Road, Taopu District, Shanghai.  Designed by COBBLESTONE, “Jinhuan Huizhi Tiandi” is an industrial economy park that was completed in 2012.  This open park comprises of seven single buildings which are in differentiated scales and arranged randomly. 

Located at Gojo Krasuma, Kyoto, the original house has more than 100 years history. It is a traditional timber-structure house in typical form of Kyoto house, and the main skeleton remains in good condition except for some random later rebuilt. The owner intended to transform it into a unique boutique homestay.

Sunny Apartment is located in Taichung, one of the typical units of Taiwanese housing. In the space original plan, light and ventilation of public space were blocked by rooms, only the south has an opening. It was far from the ideal home we expected.

Sasaki initially worked with the Tecnológico de Monterrey in Monterrey, Mexico to investigate how to transform the original 1969 library building into a more relevant and collaborative academic hub. During the course of this study it was discovered that the building was in need of a significant seismic upgrade that would be both cost prohibitive and severely limit the flexibility of the building. The university then asked Sasaki to collaborate with them to design a building that will become the leading academic library in Mexico.

Project Background: Dilapidated Dwellings in the Hinterland of the Dabie Mountains
Located in Xin County, Henan Province, this project is an crucial part of the Dabie Mountains Outdoor Campground Park, which has been regarded as an important gateway to the Dabie Mountains National Hiking Trails.

Datong museum, located in Yudong New Area in Datong, plays an important role in the construction of the Area. As a new administrative and cultural center in Datong, the Yudong New Area, situated in the east side of the ancient city which is across the river, takes an important role in the city axis.

Under a narrow canopy, two doors are designed as one element, just like a butterfly with two butterfly wings. The two doors guide the visitors into two bookstores with different function and atmosphere. Like the two doors, the two bookstores are also nested in one 94sqm space.

Half Architecture
Half Architecture is one kind of design method we take, trying to balance modern lifestyle and traditional craft in construction project. Architects only do part of a design to optimize critical problems, leaving the rest to local builders. Meanwhile, traditional craft can be developed and evolved during modern construction.
