XIAN Guoba Factory Renovation / NEWS

After decades of intensive urban development and changes in China, Xian’s Guoba Factory cluster was left as a residual product of industrial transformation, yet also a potential space for revitalization of the local cultural identity and urban regeneration in the rapidly changing environment. The site is located at the junction of Qu Jiang Road and Xi Ying Road, surrounded by existing residences at the West. The project is an experiment how to regenerate the city by fusing the architecture design and new commercial phenomena, the space making toinspire the young people’s creativity, positivity and ventures. By respecting the urban context, enhancing the sharing of public space, and generating the sense of belonging and recognition of users, the design aimed to further inspire the vitality of the district and even the city.

Chengdu Quantum Project Exhibition Hall / Fanzhu Design

“CRRC” is the full name of CRRC Chengdu Locomotive and Rolling Stock Co., Ltd., also known as “Chengchang”. The CRRC factory building was built and put into use in the 1950s, and the architectural form is a Chinese-Soviet eclectic style. The original intention of the project was to transform the front hall of the CRRC depot building to meet the display requirements of the regional plan, and then put it back into use.

Nankun Secret Art Restaurant / Wildurban Architects

Background and site. An art hotel settlement in the Nankun mountain national forest park. Starting from the site and tradition, a new picture is established, which contains memory and points to future imagination. The project is located in a valley 800 meters above sea level in Nankun Mountain National Forest Park. There are 5 original brick-wood structure holiday villas built in the 90s in the place, with a very low-density layout to balance the relationship between architecture and nature. As a public space, the new building needs to carry activities such as art exhibition, brand launch, catering, and gathering, as a generator of multiple functions.

Masterplan and the Laboratory Building, Novartis Shanghai Campus / Atelier FCJZ

Project Background + Current Stage
Since 2006, Atelier FCJZ has produced a comprehensive planning scheme and architectural design guidelines for the Novartis Shanghai Campus, in addition to designing one research laboratory building on the Campus. In a continuation of the methods used by Novartis’ Basel Campus in Switzerland, each building at the Shanghai Campus is also designed by a different architect. Further, a number of the buildings and elements of the landscape of the central garden and courtyard are also designed by different designers. With regard to design, Novartis provided architects with the following direction: “In the Shanghai Campus, we wish to achieve modern laboratories and modern workspaces, providing researchers with a relaxing and home-like environment such with greater opportunities to interact and cooperate, and make better use of their creativity.” In 2016, Novartis Shanghai Campus had its Phase I construction completed, with a total of seven buildings.

Hi Sea Floating Hotel / Balance Design

The hotel is located in the sea area of Dongshan Island in Fujian, 500m from the coastline. It is like a floating island, which has no borders with the land, and is independent from the mundane world. In terms of the design layout, Hi Sea pays equal attention to aesthetics and safety.

HKPI’s Office / Design Systems

The new headquarter of HKPI, designed by Hong Kong-based interior and furniture design firm Design Systems ltd., epitomises a new work lifestyle envisioned by the client and the team that reflects unspoken contemporary desires. The 1,500 square metres space is divided into a 40% open area and 60% office space for the workforce and management team of 50 people—an unprecedented luxury in an uber dense city where space is gold. “The people are the most valuable asset of the company. We imagined how people interact with each design element during the design process, and put their wellbeing at the forefront,” as stated by Design Systems on their design intention.

Shenzhen Maozhou River Hydrological Education Exhibition Hall / TJAD

Evoke city Memory
Maozhou River, the mother river of Shenzhen, is named because of abundant water and grass, but it is lost in the wave of urban development due to the special history of Shenzhen. Until now, an eye-catching ring, like a white “ring”, has risen from a bend in the middle of the Maozhou River, bringing the historical context back to the public eye and gradually brightening the image of “mother”. It is the “River Ring”,an important node of the 4km ecological restoration demonstration section of Maozhou River.

“Unique Mount EMEI” Land Of Dramas / WG Studio + BIAD-BOA Studio

“Unique Mount EMEI ” performance Land Of Dramas is located near the main scenic spot of Sichuan, Mount EmeiEmeishan City, Sichuan Province. It is a large situational experience drama created by the famous Chinese director Wang Chaoge, who is invited by Mount Emei Tourism Investment and Development (Group) Co., LTD. The total area of the project is covers about 6 hectares, including the “Above the clouds” theatre, the scenery garden in the cloud and the “Under the clouds” scene theatre transformed from the original village in the site.
