Aoshima is a small mysterious island in the Pacific Ocean. In the center of the island, there is a shrine that has a circumference of 1.5 km and is overgrown with subtropical vegetation. This project consists of a café and the client’s residence. The site faces a main road, backdropped by the Pacific Ocean, spreading out eastwards complemented by a park called “Kodomo no Kuni” across the road. To the west, a mountain range can be seen across the railroad tracks, making the site a kind of boundary between the mountains and the sea.

The desire to have a home that ‘blends in’ the true sense of the word into the land and landscape, not be intrusive, or block the expansive paddy field for our neighbors in the rear.

The design of the exhibition hall in the attic of the chapter deanery follows up on the modifications from 1998‒2006 when the Olomouc Archdiocesan Museum was created. When thinking through it, we asked ourselves the question of the degree of intervention in the existing attic. We did not find it appropriate to insulate the wooden structures, and for that reason, we rejected the standard thermal insulation of the attic space.

LES, a project by Berlin-based studio RHO, is a versatile event location situated on an industrial campus in North Berlin. This 400-square-meter space is a dynamic environment that easily transforms from a campus canteen during the day to a corporate event location in the evening, meeting the varied needs of guests and the campus community. The design of LES is inspired by its industrial surroundings and combines functionality with contemporary materials and forms. The inclusion of a fully equipped kitchen on the underground level is a key aspect of the concept, with its design elements subtly reflecting the aesthetics of food production.
