Alma 24 House / Maria José Benech + Stéphane Asselin

June 26, 2024 Hadir Al Koshta 0

The Alma-24 project is located on the northwest shore of Lake Saint-Jean, the third-largest lake in the province of Quebec (Canada). Offering breathtaking panoramic views, the shoreline landscape alternates between miles of sandy beaches and imposing rugged rocky surfaces. The site was home to an abandoned summer pavilion partially erected on the protected coastal strip. Sensitive to the protection of the territory and the revaluation of its natural features, the new owners wanted to build the single-family residence on a renaturalized site. The first stage of dismantling the deteriorated structures made it possible to restore the natural profile of the topography, revealing its original identity, and determining the location of the future residence while minimizing deforestation.

Negrelli Bridge / ARGE Negrelli

Zurich, Negrelli Bridge and the dense railway network. Together they emit a remarkable inviting charm, despite its cold industrial character. One term comes to mind – industrial warmth – dirty old town. Is the bridge a place to be? Why not. A sunset on the bridge is just as spectacular as in the Swiss Alps. You just trade the mountain backdrop for a variety of concrete facades and the view of trains accelerating through the onset of dusk, as if trying to escape the darkness and catch up with the dissolving day. The two area developments Zollstrasse and Europaallee densify Zurich’s city centre along the edges of the railway track field. As a path across the open track area, the Negrellisteg provides unobstructed views and a superordinate orientation within the urban fabric. The Negrellisteg links the network of paths between city districts 4 and 5, while at the same time offering a unique opportunity to experience the crossing of the tracks as a brief pause for breath and a view against the backdrop of a remarkable urban panorama. The bridge is a further landmark in the track field, which emphasises its symbolic nature through its clear design amidst the flickering of the numerous railway installations.

Casa Roverella is a house located in Valle d’Itria, a lush area in the center of Puglia. The main intention was immediately to seek a dialogue with the natural elements present on the ground. A large oak tree was the initial inspiration that led to structuring the entire house around it, making it the true protagonist of the project.

Hyparschale Building Hall – Conversion Refurbishment and Conservation/ gmp Architects

June 25, 2024 Hadir Al Koshta 0

The Hyparschale in Magdeburg, built in 1969 to a design by Ulrich Müther, was ceremonially reopened on June 20, 2024. After standing vacant for over twenty years, and following the commission by the authorities of the state capital of Magdeburg, the badly dilapidated concrete shell structure was comprehensively restored and converted from 2019 to 2024 to plans by gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects. The focus of gmp’s design has been on retaining the spatial effect of the shell roof and on reviving the building, which was listed as a historic monument in 1998, as a multifunctional venue for events and exhibitions. As a result of the new functional concept combined with conservation requirements the “new” Hyparschale is a guiding example of the preservation and modernization of additional works by Müther as well as other buildings from the post-war era.

The plot we got was a green place, with a very attractive tree stand in the southwestern part, which created the character of the place. We connected the main entrances to the area and selected a place for the required function, in a way that interfered with the existing trees as little as possible. The water playground basins and the stage were planned in an area with low greenery, in the eastern part of the area, while in the western part, we designed wooden squares and paths floating above the underground and meandering between the existing trees. The main water playground was partially raised to create slides integrated into the terrain.

Mesh House / Alison Brooks Architects

June 23, 2024 Hadir Al Koshta 0

This project is a rare example of a newly built house in Central London, in the Hampstead Conservation Area. Alison Brooks Architects was commissioned by a private client to design a new model of family home, tailored to the fluid, informal lifestyles of its five family members. The project site is in Belsize Park, Hampstead, one of London’s most characterful neighbourhoods, known for its lush greenery and wide spectrum of domestic architecture. The site is both sloping and wedge-shaped, with a wide frontage that ‘turns the corner ‘ of Belsize Lane. A crucial technical constraint was to ensure 100% daylight was maintained in the windows of neighbouring buildings, requiring careful 3D modelling of the overall building form. This unusual site called for a careful negotiation of the building form both as a piece of the streetscape and as an instrument to create an intimate domestic landscape.
