Venice House / Walker Workshop

This two-story home is our first in Venice and our two young clients gave us one simple directive: “don’t f*ck it up”. Given such freedom, we approached the project aiming to create a space that would make the most of its tight Venice lot. We designed a solid mass punctuated by welcoming voids, providing a sense of both privacy and openness.

A spectacular coastal site called for a complementary beach house to integrate with the landscape and take advantage of ocean, light, and views: striking the perfect balance between prospect and refuge. Located on Central Queensland’s ‘Discovery Coast’, Springs Beach House harnesses the incredible views of the Coral Sea and across the cresting waves towards the headland at Seventeen Seventy, the site where Captain James Cook first landed in Queensland in 1770. The site is a bushy escarpment, falling dramatically towards the beach and view to the north.

Charles Moore says, “When I see the map, the coastal rich variety such as bays and ports, islands and archipelagos, coves and estuaries is more interesting than a simple coastline where the land hits the ocean.” ” And the room is a spacious ocean ground architectural version.” And he says “Places like complicated topography to the ocean are Alcove etc., which enables basic human actions.”

The Mill House / Wingårdh Arkitektkontor

March 5, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

Wingårdhs converted a large old farm in the countryside in southern Sweden into a vacation house for a family from the nearby city of Malmö. He transformed the original farm buildings – cowshed, stables, hay loft and barn – into sleeping quarters, kitchen and a gym, among other rooms, and added a new freestanding wing to the late 19th -century house. This little annex is a refuge, a quiet place to escape to or a private domain for guests to inhabit. Throughout the project, the client demonstrated unwavering faith in the architect, giving him great latitude in designing the little fifty-square-meter cottage.
