Aperture House / Studio P

May 3, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

The Aperture House is a home for a growing family that connects the comfort of a private dwelling with uninterrupted views of the Sydney city skyline, encompassed within a quiet neighbourhood. Part of the conceptual framework for the Willoughby residence grew from our relationship with the client and his work as an industrial designer. The notion of object making allowed us to work with shapes and geometry and introduced patterns and repetition to the design through shifting light, shadows & distinct geometric finishes.

La Garita House / Arkosis

May 2, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

A young couple faced with the decision to buy an apartment in the areas close to their work, that would have cost them twice as much for a third of the size of this house, were drawn towards the solution of living a little further away and being linked to the smaller population centres of La Garita and Atenas instead. This location puts in relevance the constructive traditions of these old towns and their strong relationship with their rural and natural borders. In this sense, the house is considered an extension of the shade of the trees that border the ravine, which also defines the limit of the terrain. Stones, reeds and a small bridge are used as well, associated with the bodies of water of the location.

Science Center for the Augustinianum Secondary School / Bez+Kock Architekten

The City of Greven (Münsterland) is located in a region with a great tradition in brick construction. Also the main building of the Augustinianum from the 1960s has a striking exposed brickwork and so it seemed sensible to design the new construction with a brick façade. The selected waterstruck brick with its loamy, brown-grey colour is burnt only a few kilometers away. Its colours merge watercolour-like into one another, whereby the darker heads put distinctive accents on the façade built up in a wild pattern.

School Complex and Multipurpose Hall / MoDusArchitects

May 2, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

Sited on the grounds of the town’s former school, the project incorporates part of the existing structure within its walls to propose an entirely new building that houses a kindergarten, an elementary school, a branch library, and a large gymnasium that also serves as a much loved multipurpose hall.  The four, interdependent programs are combined to economize means and maximize the potential for community engagement.  Social events, festivals, local choral and theatre associations, the book club and many more events, people and initiatives are galvanized together in a building so much more than simply a school.  Articulated in section to afford multiple access points, the building grounds itself in the roots and traditions of S. Andrea to create a series of outdoor playgrounds and public squares able to give new form to a place of learning and culture.

Landmark St Kilda pub The Village Belle Hotel has been reborn through a reimagined design by Technē Architecture + Interior Design which opens the historic hotel up to Barkly Street and, just across the road, to the new pedestrian zone on Acland Street. The Technē design contrasts a contemporary beer garden, enclosed in fully operable glazing and robust steel framing, with a restoration of the original Victorian elements of the hotel. A drive-in bottle shop at the rear, on Smith Street, has been removed to make way for 12 boutique apartments.

María Emilia House / Mínimo Común Arquitectura

The human being, helpless and deprived of tools, decides to transform his habitat. Given the need to protect himself and others, he builds his own cavern. Over the years, he domesticates the fire and then discovers the earth under the fire becomes a rock. Today 70,000 years later, we continue to build using the same materials as our ancestors, with water and earth, and the purpose remains the same: to protect those we love most, and to protect ourselves.
