Tre Søstre Housing / Salmela Architect

July 2, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

Tre Søstre is located in the village of Grand Marais, Minnesota. The setting is defined by the rugged shore of Lake Superior to the east, a steep hillside sloping up to a prominent ridge line, with a vast boreal forest stretching north to the arctic. The area was first inhabited by the Ojibwa, with French fur traders and Scandinavian fishermen settling the area in the early 20th century. Today the town remains a remote village with an economy based largely on outdoor recreation and tourism enabled by the proximity to Lake Superior and nearly 4 million acre Superior National Forest.

Sometimes alterations and additions can amount to significant interventions to breathe new life into a building, occasionally they require only the lightest touch to reinvigorate an existing design, as was the case with this Sydney home, designed in classic modernist style by the architect George Reeves in 1963.

2perfection Office Building and Industrial Warehouse / RG architectes

July 1, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

RG architectes was contracted by the marketing company 2perfection to build their headquarters located in Nivelles, Belgium. The challenge was to settle, on a relatively small parcel, a volume composed of the company’s offices, a warehouse, traffic and parking areas, as well as green spaces to create a pleasant work environment. The densification of the parcel was an answer to a main urbanistic issue, especially in a business park. The aim was to include various functions of proper height into one single coherent architecture. The project was designed like a mass hollowed out in certain areas.

G&G House / TAVA Arquitectura y Habitat

This project is the result of a participatory process carried out with our clients, whom we worked with from choosing the plot to completing the execution of the house. The clients are a couple that wanted to build a house in Carilo, a quiet place surrounded by forest and beach. The needs of our clients involved some challenges: on one hand, they wanted a house with a strong imprint, elevated from the ground, with geometries marked by unevenness, but at the same time a comfortable and functional house with optimized living environments for their day to day life. On the other hand, it needed to function as a home for the two of them during the year, while being able to host the visit of their large family during the summer.
