In the Fischer district, which is part of the historic old town of Ulm, the architecture firms Hartl. (Ulm) and Bottega + Ehrhardt Architekten (Stuttgart) created a new residential building with a gallery. The new building at the Saumarkt replaces a faceless post-war building with a one-story flat roof porch and, with its cubature, follows the formerly magnificent half-timbered houses on the corner of the Saumarkt and Fischergasse.

The first residential complex in Ukraine based on the block development principle. Picturesque building silhouettes, elaborated apartment layouts, and fully pedestrian courtyards became the standard of comfort class in the Ukrainian residential property. Due to the city block concept, the area is divided into two types: streets (allowing for motor traffic) and courtyards (located inside the block and featuring children’s playgrounds, benches, and alleys). Motor vehicles cannot enter these inner courtyards, with the exception of emergency service vehicles which can use widened passageways paved with grass paver.

The Dockner Wine Cellar is a modern utility building optimizing business to ensure sustainability and resource conservation. A structure with a rectangular footprint has been placed on the elongated property, which stretches from east to west. The basement of the new utility building is built partially into the steep sloping hill.

This is old Brunswick, it’s industrial, it’s run down and it’s dirty. It sounds gruesome but there is also a strange endearing quality about this area. The silver lining is the people of Brunswick. It is a melting pot of migrant activity, Italian, Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, African all coming together here. There is no judgment, everyone is part of one totally imperfect community.The Commons is an experiment in building an urban community. It could have only worked in a few Melbourne locations. There is no accident that it sits adjacent to Anstey Station in the heart of old Brunswick.
