the Coffee Shed of Luxun Park / SHISUO design office

Urbanization has long been seen as a process that deviates from nature. In such process, people in cities gradually drift away from nature. For a long time, the cost of acquiring buildings has inevitably involved burying water bodies, cutting down trees, or encroaching on fields until people have become numb. However, humans themselves originate from nature, and the desire to coexist with nature is instinctual. The Coffee Shed of Luxun Park reflects our contemplation on the dichotomy between artificial and natural—how man-made structures, as buildings, can coexist, symbiotically create with nature.

Haras DOM / Per Cavalli Arquitetura

June 2, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

Haras DOM was designed to serve a family that practices jumping and carriage driving. Designed as a complete equestrian structure, which allows everything – from raising foals to practicing these sports at a high level – it focuses on the well-being of the animals that live there. Slightly hilly and without abrupt differences in level, the topography of the site dictated the positioning of all built volumes which, in turn, dictated the flow of animals, cars, and trucks. Employee houses were strategically positioned at the highest level and close to the main entrance, allowing general visibility of the property and access control.
At the other extreme, at an intermediate level, there is the volume of the pavilion and its annexes, such as the round pen, manure pit, roughage deposits, and veterinary room. As a space with greater permanence and flow, it has a privileged view and privacy, an important demand from customers. The central and lowest point of the land houses the large high-performance track, machinery garage, and two maternity stalls with individual paddocks. The entire property is connected not only by the numerous release paddocks, spread throughout the area, but also by the lane specifically designed for the practice of carriage driving.

Zapallar House Studio / Grass+Batz Arquitectos

The limitations of the site where the Casa Taller Zapallar is located suggest the construction of a house in the form of a long block, perpendicular to the coastal strip and on the flat section of the terrain. A block narrow enough to be located at the southeast end will allow protected views of the ocean without being seen by neighbors to the west and northwest. Assuming this fact, it opens the door to integrating a range of desires on how to inhabit this building.
