Punamora House / TALLER PONTI

March 26, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

It was a traditional townhouse, like so many others on the Maresme coast. It is a row house, with the main facade aligned to the street, dividing walls of mud and stone, and a back patio. Despite this, the house had two remarkable peculiarities. First, it incorporated two typological units on the same property. That is: instead of having a single bay of between 4 and 5 meters, as usual, it had two bays as part of it. Second, the ground level of the back patio of the house was about 3 meters above the ground level of the main access. Both features had great potential but were paradoxically limiting as well. In the first case because the relationship between the two entities was very poor.

Bunker 319 / Ateljé Ö

March 26, 2022 Luciana Pejić 0

Bunker 319 is a remain from Swedish military activities on Northern Gotland, a hidden eagle’s nest with a squinting window shutter toward the Baltic Sea. The project of Bunker 319 originated in the office of Skälsö Arkitekter and was later executed in the newly formed atelier of Ateljé Ö. The work of converting the bunker and creating new spaces for the site has transformed it into that dream of a true island summer oasis.

Ashford House / The Purple Ink Studio

March 25, 2022 Valeria Silva 0

Located on an ancestral property of 12,800 sqft in central Bangalore (India), Ashford House is built for the new generation where 6 families could reside, enjoying the best of collective living while having their own private spaces. The antiquity of the existing structure had to find a new life with the new built form. This became the motivating factor for building the material palette and connecting with the existing landscape. The building is oriented in a north-south direction with 2 units planned per level. To cut down on the sun, the southern side was planned with recessed decks and vertical fins for the private areas. Openness and privacy are controlled through careful consideration of glazing positions. Jaali/Mashrabiyas were used as a symbolic gesture reflecting the memories of the past, which existed back then. These screens also act as visual barriers and bring in patterns highlighted by the sunlight.

Casa Maca / Workshop, Diseño y Construcción

March 25, 2022 Andreas Luco 0

Located a few steps from one of the most emblematic avenues of the city of Mérida, Casa Maca is a historic former residence from the Porfiriato era. Visitors are transported to the past, where they are easily captivated by the vitality of the structure’s colors and textures. After removing any damaged finishings during restoration, the excellent quality of workmanship with which the original walls were built is easy to appreciate. The original, freshly exposed stone masonry was preserved and framed by lightly colored moldings, as though they are their own works of art.
