A large disused office building from the 1970s, located at the southern edge of Brussels, is now transformed into a vibrant new town hall for the municipality of Uccle. Designed by archipelago, this town hall will offer workspace for 450 public servants and reconnect the building to the neighborhood by opening up a lush green public garden.

New opportunities for obsolete spaces. OOIIO Architecture completes the transformation of a former Shop into an Apartment in Madrid. In 55 m2 this colorful home concentrates what is necessary for contemporary urban life. The rectangular space that configured the former store is embraced by an “L” of cabinets and kitchen, in such a way that it frees the space receiving inside as much natural light as possible. Golden slats direct that light and play with privacy as users need.

These aspects are also important for kindergartens, daycare centers and schools, because a child-friendly design can stimulate the curiosity and imagination of children, so that they learn in a playful way. The design of a room supports the learning and creativity of children. Daylight systems, for example, flood rooms with light, making them appear larger and friendlier.

Regarding the preservation of the historic Hsin Fu market, the project aims to arrive at an understanding of its existence through the building design and its physical condition. The Hsin Fu market built in 1935 in the Wanhua district, the oldest district of Taipei, was designed based on “Form follows Function”. The horseshoe plan provides a loggia space as the ones found in the typology of public plazas where traditional markets used to be set up. From its original design, the HsinFu market is strikingly different from the traditional market, usually more permeable.

“Like Epicures once said, good food, good friends, and good wine is the perfect way to live life.”- I wanted a place where I can enjoy and live my people.” the client Mr. Yash Vasant briefed the concept for his house. “The house should be the place where I can take a pause from my daily routine, energize and get back to routine.” He added. Thus this became the purpose of building this weekend home. The client wanted his 3BHK with a library hall, a home theatre and a bar area included with common functions like the living room and kitchen areas.

Anchored on a steep west-facing site the project acts as a vantage point to enjoy views of the caldera and Wollumbin (Mount Warning) to the west and glimpses of the Pacific Ocean to the north.
