In the heart of the Historic Center of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, we come across a building in decay, reduced to the strength of its stone walls.
The urban metropolises of our planet are home to an abundance of stories. They are home to stories of wealth, of innovation, and of architectural marvels. They are home, too, to stories of inequality, inequity and of urban divides – places where one’s income determines the quality of the spatial environment around them. Within these stories has developed an increasing advocation for making cities “smarter”, the goal being to use data and digital technology to build more efficient and convenient urban environments.
This interior design of a law firm is located in a historic tenement house in Jeżyce in Poznań. The project involved expanding the space by creating a new reception area, a conference room, and more office space. Wooden antique doors lead to a large open space for visitors.
The new four-group kindergarten is positioned on the northern property boundary directly along the railway line and, due to its emissions, was structurally integrated into a noise protection wall. The organization of the building is carried out in the most consistent implementation of this special feature: all group and group adjoining rooms as well as the multipurpose room are oriented exclusively to the soundproof south side and thus to the garden. At the rear, in the area of the slope of the noise protection wall towards the noise-polluting railway line, the ancillary rooms are arranged almost without windows and thus form additional structural immission protection for the lounge and play areas.

Project Summary – For a house built on a plantation for a family of four on the slope of Mt. Kawi in East Java, Indonesia, Ivan Priatman Architecture stacked two rectangular blocks neatly to minimize the cutting down of existing trees. The second-floor volume is rotated to cantilever past the first-floor volume creating engaging spaces that are formed by the juxtaposition. The house, all clad with local sandstone, blends the massiveness and weight of the textured stone blocks, with the weightlessness that is implied by the hovering volume.
The architecture embraces the flowing inner garden. The trickle of water, quietly echoing through the family’s very own private garden. It’s a sensation of being out in the fields and mountains.
