Remodeling of the Plaza de los Belgas / Contxto Arquitectura

May 10, 2021 Valeria Silva 0

The square is located in the urban epicentre of Collado Villalba and it is pivotal for the public use of the municipality. However, it was a rigid space detached from its surroundings due to the road traffic circulation and the perimeter parking, as well as its lack of uses and its harsh design. The square was a mere asphalt terrace devoted to hosting the weekly market, containing almost no green or rest areas.

Mantinum Intervention / Buzzo Spinelli Architecture

May 5, 2021 Andreas Luco 0

The project has three aims: first creating a pleasant link between the port and the Citadel of Bastia, second designing a theatre of greenery, and last but not least restoring the Romieu garden. The intervention takes place in the heart of the citadel on a very steep slope, and it expresses the objective of retrieving that citadel which has become a medium for a public space development between the city and the water. From belvederes to platforms, from staircases to ramps, from gardens to squares, the project multiplies the spaces of contemplation and strolls, offering visitors the choice of sequenced routes, alternating between openings on the horizon and narrowing on the rock, the walls, and the vegetation.

The Splash Installation / Arttenders

May 3, 2021 Pilar Caballero 0

WHAT?! An outdoor pool? In Hart van Zuid, at the Annie M.G. Schmidt square in Rotterdam, a functional artwork has been launched in the shape of… a swimming pool – just before the start of the Eurovision Song Contest. Not a real one of course, but an artistic interpretation that serves as an interactive meeting place for the inhabitants of Rotterdam and visitors. The Splash, a collaboration between Arttenders and artist Cindy Bakker, is inspired by the natural appeal of paddling pools. It is a place where functionality, art, spatial development, and policy solutions come together through social design. The work is ‘officially’ put into use from April 28 on, but can already be admired!
