Atlas, the renovated main building of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), is an award winning, smart and sustainable university building, which has officially been opened on the 21st of March 2019. By combining state-of-the-art materials with optimal reuse, the robust Atlas building dating from the sixties is transformed into a light and energy efficient university building by Team V Architecture, Van Rossum, Valstar Simonis and Peutz. It is now one of the most sustainable education buildings in the world.

Dancy House, Marlborough College / Allies and Morrison

In order to increase the proportion of female students at the school, Marlborough College has recently opened Dancy House, an additional boarding house for female boarders. The new building will provide bedrooms for 70 pupils, a range of communal, kitchen and dining spaces with associated facilities. The building sensitively responds to its setting in the picturesque grounds of the Old Bailey of Marlborough Castle.

This project takes place in the urban planning of the Plateau de Saclay, along the public spaces chain, defined by XDGA and MDP. Within a coherent architecture, it links together the metropolitan scale of the site and a more intimism and domestic scale related to the dwellings.

In this case, the project occupies the first four floors of a corporate building, creating the challenge of integrating the campus into the existing structure in a way that endows it with the characteristics of an outdoor campus.

The opportunity has delivered a brief and design based on the typology of space, rather than any notion of departmental structures, breaking down the ‘silos’ and boundaries that are typical in many HE institutions.
