Paddock house sits exposed cross-slope, in a field of rye grass amongst grazing cattle and kangaroos with distant valley views to the north. The house connects to these views via a series of framed apertures in the volume of the house.

Overtreders W employed the principles of a circular economy when designing the temporary RAUM pavilion in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Located at the public exhibition square RAUM, the pavilion offers a meeting space and restaurant for people to reside between attending exhibitions, lectures or workshops – but it is only required for three years. Starting from the memory of the client’s past in the birthplace of the owner in Central Java, clients wanted us to design a house that seems humble and warm. Clients and Architects agreed to use brick as the main material of the Flick House, because it seemed to have a humble and warm philosophy. According to the owner, the brick has the power to make a big house welcoming. Starting with the main material, then the Architect chose Green Architecture as the main concept to be applied in the Flick House.

The main aim of this project isn’t to design a villa, but to carry out a case study. Ruiz-Geli references architects such as Richard Neutra and Eames who helped to define this concept. In Los Angeles in the 1950s, Richard Neutra established a new form of construction with prefabricated parts and rapid manufacturing and assembly. This inspired a revolution, reducing costs and opening the market up to the middle class.
