Naidi Community Hall / CAUKIN Studio

Naidi village, located on Vanua Levu in Fiji, had been without a community hall for 7 years, when their previous community hall fell into disrepair and was deemed unsafe for use. In the wake of this, the project came to fruition when a local NGO, the Naqaqa Giving Foundation approached CAUKIN Studio. Serving a village of 400 people and 75 households, the hall’s main function was to provide a space for the community to come together for meetings, celebrations, funerals and weddings. In Fijian culture, the community hall is the cultural and operational heart of a village.

This architecture is located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, which has a long confortable temperature period, and is examining the relationship between the inside and outside of the building, including the outside garden. Instead of spending the entire budget just for construction, we first plan to have enough space for two couples to live. If child is born, we are planning to arrange it in the north side garden while considering the room where children’s rooms and workrooms can be added. I’m aiming at the flexible construction with which growth in a garden and the family’s growth agree.

The essential premise of the commission was to design a small, highly efficient and healthy house capable of making the most of a very narrow plot but with delicious views of the Arosa estuary. The strong point of the plot is, in addition to the mentioned views, its elevated position on the access road, which facilitated the opening of the facades towards the desired orientations without compromising your privacy.

This hybrid library/affordable housing project in Chicago combines a 16,000 square foot branch library with a 44-unit affordable apartment complex for seniors. The two-story library element is slid forward on the site to the street to foreground its public nature, while the residential block, which hovers above, is set back from the street.

This is a rest house for a family of three, a few kilometers from El Tabacal lake, Colombia. The area is 4100 feet above sea level and has an average temperature of 73 degrees Farenheit throughout the year. The climate, humid and warm, determined the design of a cool house, which could be naturally ventilated, that could be kept open to the landscape during the day but that could offer insulation at night. To achieve this, lattices are used; suitable materials such as concrete blocks and ceramic roof tiles are used and a considerable interior height is proposed to dissipate hot air. Bedrooms are to remain away from the two facades that receive greater direct solar incidence by means of ventilated circulations.

Kinmen, the remote island of Taiwan close to Fujian, was located in southeast shore of Mainland China and used to be military zone during Cold War. We found an ideal living location on the most verdant plain and hilly area in Kinmen. The site is leaning against Kinmen’s highest Mount Taiwu and overlooking at Fujian’s Mount Hongjian, is isolated from the rest of the world.
