Store

A flagship store for Gelato Messina and most likely the only store in Adelaide (for a while). The clients wanted the materials to be robust and long-lasting and the design to be unique and memorable. The fit-out channels the original Messina aesthetic of a bit retro and a bit mid-century. There is a leaning toward the use of terrazzo and tiles, referencing the yellow terrazzo porch of the attached house (and future restaurant) and as materials that connect to the Aus-Italian housing typologies of suburban Australia. 

The Living Forest of Harmony. Inspired by nature and Huawei’s ‘Harmony’ operating system, the geometry of the two-story Huawei Taikoo Li flagship store is based on biophilic forms that seamlessly transition from outside to inside.

Located in the vibrant heart of Myeong-dong, Seoul, the skin1004 flagship store emerges as a distinctive presence in a saturated landscape of skincare boutiques. The essence of this differentiation lies in meticulous, creative space design, serving as the cornerstone for shaping the brand’s unique identity and resonance with the public.  As the pioneer of the first offline flagship store in Myeongdong, skin1004 embraces the profound concept of “untouched nature,” liberating itself from the cliche of nature in green hues. Instead, it introduces a newly crafted landscape, bathed in rich brown and beige tones inspired by the pristine nature of Madagascar, surrounded by rocks, pebbles, and sand. The design aims to offer a distinct experience by blending various landscapes within the urban environment. This intentional contrast with the bustling city outside creates a captivating space, sparking curiosity and providing an intriguing escape for visitors.

The site shape is almost triangular and is located between a main street and a residential area. More than half of the site faces the street. Because of its good location, the client requested a house with a space that could be used as a rental store. It wasn’t easy to protect privacy in the location if the appearance immediately showed a store next to the residence or if a part of the residence was a store.

Several retail shops are listed in Pangyo’s newly opened hotel. The Cheonga Samplowars Shop has been established in one of the several spaces listed. To have characteristics that are different from other retail shops, it was thought that a space with visual artistry and extended functions could reveal a subtle presence to consumers.

OskayStore is a curated space in the historic First Bank Warehouse in Yancheng, Kaohsiung. Drawing inspiration from my perspective growing up in Kaohsiung, I have incorporated the ruggedness of the mountains, the calmness of the sea, and the urban development of the industrial port into our design elements. The aim is to deeply engage with Yancheng Warehouse culture through these visual elements.

The project required a series of programs based on the traditional use of commercial spaces in the area. The logic we arrived at for the project’s resolution was to create spaces with as little character as possible. This way, we aimed to not only meet the client’s and neighborhood’s requirements but also leave the possibility for future owners of the spaces to use them according to their needs, without constraining them to a specific use.

The Readellion bookstore offers a selection of design-oriented books and magazines.

Daifuku is a traditional Japanese confectionery. At Aito-Denkimochiten, their special Daifuku is made from mochi rice cakes using the same method used 100 years ago, without any additives or preservatives, and they have been selling it at the same location. They are considered fresh for only five hours, and the amazingly soft mochi is filled with a delicate, feather-light red bean paste.
