Leiria Skatepark / Arquitectura Viva

Located in Leiria, the São Romão Radical Park, with an area of approximately 2,265m2, was one of the forgotten places in the city of Leiria, only used by children and, occasionally, BMX riders. Opened in 2006, the park had obsolete equipment, wear and tear and damage caused by intense use and the natural aging of its building materials.

Skatepark Under Fabiani Bridge / Scapelab

Previous state. The site was a dead-end of space on the lower level of the Fabiani bridge in Ljubljana. The bridge runs on two levels, with a four-lane motorway on the upper level, and a pedestrian bridge on the lower level. The structural characteristics of the bridge formed a pocket of unused, untraversed space under the bridge. Soon after the opening of the bridge, this space became a gathering spot for illegal drug use, homeless sleeping (despite a homeless shelter operating less than 100m away), and crime. The bridge was built in a gap formed by a partial demolition of the complex of the former sugar factory, called Cukrarna. This partial demolition of the factory complex was urbanistically necessary to complete the inner-city ring road. The demolition also presented an opportunity. The complex of the sugar factory was planned for reconstruction and revival, and a transformation of this otherwise degraded area was imminent. But the site was negative: a secluded, covered, uncontrolled space with no surveillance near the city center, inviting unwanted use.

We proudly invite you to the public space/nightclub on the river. We are injecting life into the Vltavska underpass, which lost its transit purpose between Hlavkuv bridge and became a place that citizens of Prague try to avoid while visiting the transport intersection at Vltavska. We replaced the vacancy and darkness with freestyle activities’ spots in two stages.

Skatepark Av. Beira Mar / Henry Teixeira Arquitetura e Urbanismo

September 18, 2022 Andreas Luco 0

Av. Beira Mar is the main tourist area of the city of Fortaleza and is considered its main postcard. Recently, this waterfront has undergone a process of urban and architectural reorganization where, in this context, an old track was removed and a new, more modern, and the updated track was created for skateboarding. Skateboarding is a sport on the rise in Brazil and has great athletes who stand out on the international scene. This scene has expanded with the recent inclusion of the sport in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and the beautiful participation of the Brazilian team. The Skatepark project on Av. Beira Mar is located on Náutico beach, in a strategic location due to its easy access to urban mobility. The land has great landscape potential as well as good native vegetation. One of the main premises adopted in the equipment was to preserve the most relevant trees in order to conserve, as well as provide shade for the practice of the sport throughout the day.

The N M Bodecker Foundation / Skylab Architecture

The NM Bodecker Foundation was established in 2017 by Sandy Bodecker to provide creative communities with a dynamic mix of in-person spaces for workshops, gatherings, and collaboration. Housed in a collection of repurposed 1950s-era warehouses and a former parking lot in northwest Portland, the Foundation occupies what was originally conceived as Bodecker’s creative home. Bodecker was inspired by the sense of discovery that comes from the journey and of seeing things in new ways; his analog was that of a labyrinth and the building is an embodiment of that idea.
