Design Background. Before the 1990s, northeast China had the largest urban population in China, and since then the area has formed its own urban culture much earlier than other areas. Factories not only construct the daily life of the people living there but also construct the culture. The design of factory renovation should first begin with the iteration revolution of industries, and to talk about the birth of Red Plum Culture and Creative Park, we need to first talk about the city.

House in Güemes / Zooco Estudio

The project includes a refurbishment of an existing building and the creation of new construction to complete the program of this particular house. The existing building is annexed to a larger building and separated from it by a large covered passageway. Although it was used as a dwelling, it was originally a stable for livestock, and this is reflected in its simple, unpretentious architecture and a very basic construction system, based on load-bearing walls and a roof of wooden beams covered by tiles.

By the ruins of a Castle, a Priory, a city gate, rises one modern anomaly, steadfast against all elements, a relic from the industrial age. A found object, a disused landmark, towering out of shielding trees, loved and unloved by the village of Castle Acre. Restored and reused on a shoe-string budget, Rusty tank a panelled Tudor hall, Hung timber rooms a timber spiral stair. Minimal intervention, purity of structure, Ivy growing, wind blowing a field of barley, Nature returns for the romantic industrial ruin

The project consists of the rehabilitation of a Mediterranean country house, embedded into dry land terraces, which is divided into two volumes: the main house and a shed. The original construction, in a state of prolonged abandonment, dates from the late nineteenth century and responds to the traditional type that rises on stone walls and is covered with wooden and tile roofs. Other smaller bodies have been added to the primitive ones, increasing their surface with flat volumes in contrast to the original sloping roofs; forming corrals, kitchen, bathroom, and porch.

Groenendaal College / HUB

July 16, 2021 Alexandria Bramley 0

This project involves the conversion of a castle with heritage value into the Brede school on behalf of Groenendaal College. As such, it functions as a model project within the “catch-up” operation for the construction of new schools in Flanders. The original main building’s heritage value does not allow for any drastic changes while its location in a park of natural-historic value does not allow for an expansion of the existing volume.
