Restaurant

Pistohiekka sauna-restaurant is the first step towards rebuilding the Pistohiekka resort area which flourished until the 1980s but has since disappeared. The project brings long-awaited services back to the area in the form of a lakeside sauna and a restaurant. Pistohiekka sauna-restaurant is one of the key development sites in Studio Puisto’s design for developing tourism and wood construction in Pistohiekka. The concept boasts a strong design aesthetic based on a central, curved outdoor space with the restaurant and sauna spaces spiraling around it.

Ling Long is a fine dining restaurant of modern Chinese cuisine in Beijing. When Ling Long is not in operation during the day, the restaurant area is transformed into a flower studio. To accommodate the duality, the restaurant was divided into different zones structured by different furniture groups: the flower fountain in the center, surrounded by the serving stations. Around it is the table arrangement, while the outer zone acts as a lounge area and circulation space.

“How many narratives can a building shelter? Originally built as an annex of a Jaú’s shoe factory, in mid-1925, this building was transformed to a showroom in 2011 when Chiara Meschini and Raul Pabst highlighted its brick walls, but mostly structured this new use by enlarging the openings, framed in weathered steel, and by positioning the bathrooms’ block isolated in the hall, which is made in concrete.

The Site. The avenue of Jiaozi, is a grand boulevard in Chengdu that stretches two kilometers from east to west, with a 50-meter wide of landscape space on both sides. The restaurant is one of the twenty service stations that dot the boulevard. The site is located at the heart of the city, facing the busy street on the south and the soaring high rises on the north, and looking afar the twin towers at the end of the avenue. The sense of place is busy and intense, on the first visit we immediately envisioned a proposal that would bring a breath of nature. Working with materials and tectonics that evoke a sense of nature, we try to create a relaxing and approachable setting for people to sit down and enjoy the food.

The combination of good street art and iconic videos from the 90s is the clou of the latest project created by the mode:lina™ designers. In downtown Poznań, we have created a place where the FoodX team reigns with their bold ideas.

The starting point for the conception was visiting the location of the project, none of the project team members had been to Solan before. We wanted to immerse ourselves in the context of the city, understand what it looks like from the inside, and, of course, get to know its inhabitants.

The house’s site is located as a two-story gable concrete mass in the landscape of suburban dwellings used as a cornfield. The design concept of the house is to make the space experience free without being rigid through the transition of void space and gaze that occur through movements such as fish swimming. The composition of the mass connected to the unfinished concrete surface emphasizes the weight and materiality firmly fixed from the ground, but the space’s twisting and the mass’s removal considering the surrounding landscape and the sun’s direction reveal the firmness and dynamics of the space.

The site is located at a corner of an intersection on Sharosu-gil where both narrow alleys and wide roads meet. Because of the law enacted to secure better sight at intersections, the building was built to have a plan type with a cut corner, which serves as the front of the building from the main road and creates a distorted pentagonal plane. We began our design with this cut-corner floor plan.
