The project begins with the rehabilitation of a modest family winery built in the 1930s, preserving its historical essence while adapting it to the comfort and living requirements of a contemporary home. The challenge was balancing the respect for the space’s original identity with the introduction of elements that would make it functional and welcoming for modern living.

The regeneration of an old porcelain factory property in the heart of Jingdezhen’s Imperial Kiln Historic District is guided by what PAO calls a Plugin Architecture approach to historic preservation and urban regeneration. This method involves placing architectural insertions within and adjacent to existing buildings to revitalize the site while incorporating and respecting its historical elements. Jingdezhen, known as China’s “Porcelain Capital,” has a history of over 1,000 years in ancient porcelain production.

Estrela Apartment, Lisbon / Filipe Fonseca Costa

At the back of the backyard of a typical late 19th century caged building located near the Estrela Basilica, there is a chalet nestled between the backyard and the canopies of a neighboring garden. The time and construction system are the same as the building that serves as an entrance, but not the scale. The cottage could have been the back annexe, but instead it had become the hidden gem within the tree-lined block.

Located in the heart of the Plateau Mont-Royal district, the project consists of the renovation and expansion of a duplex dating from the 1920s. Our project nicknamed ”le Petit Merlot” owes, among other things, its name to the neighborhood that hosts it, Le Petit Laurier. With its lively shopping street, this neighborhood represents the typical Montreal way of life where relationships between neighbors are built around a good meal. Petit Merlot owes its name to this spirit of conviviality but also to its red clay brick cladding which characterizes the surrounding built environment.

Nº5 Renovation in El Viso / EME157

September 17, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

The El Viso neighbourhood was designed in 1926 by the architect Enrique Pfitz. The buildings are catalogued with level II volumetric protection, and must be modified in accordance with the regulations. When the clients bought the home, it didn’t follow the regulations. They conveyed to us their concern about recovering urban planning legality and respectfully restoring the home. The first thing we carried out was the demolition of the illegal areas and structural stabilization. From this moment we followed the reverse construction logic, that is, starting the house from the roof. The roof was rebuilt according to the established model and then the rest of the floors were built.
