Background：Regeneration of a redundant quarry
The Qiseshan Quarry Garden and Visitor Centre are located in a redundant quarry that ceased operations in 2017. As a result of intensive mining, the soil and vegetation in this area has been severely damaged over the years. With the environmental protection initiatives promoted by the local government and supported through investment from private capital, the subsequent ecological restoration has been on-going for several years. As a result the previous damaged land is now covered with greeneries, with a new ecological public garden to open in 2020.

Ruby City is a 14,000-square-foot contemporary art center, with 10,000- square feet of exhibition space, in San Antonio, TX, dedicated to providing a space for the city’s thriving creative community to experience works by both local and internationally-acclaimed artists. Envisioned in 2007 by the late collector, philanthropist, and artist Linda Pace, Ruby City presents works from Pace’s own collection of more than 800 paintings, sculptures, installations, and video works.

Architecture and function
The project is located on the outskirts of Quistello, Mantua and is part of the government’s redevelopment plan after the earthquake. The project includes a youth activity center and a 2,000-square-meter park. Although the public building is mainly used by young people under the age of 18, it is flexible enough to be used by businesses, individuals, college students and young people for the vents and meetings. This is a single-storey building divided into two areas, namely service space and activity space.

This project responds to a simple need: the connection between two existing blocks of classrooms. This vertical and horizontal relations are the context to create a space of encounter and relaxation for the students during breaks, as well as an exterior amphitheatre.
