June 8, 2020 Valeria Silva 0

The Molinete Museum project is located on the ground floor of the Casco Antiguo health center, in El Molinete hill. This space was designed so that its structure did not substantially affect the remains of the Roman Curia, around which the proposal is structured. This Health Center has been also designed by the office, finishing the construction in 2009. Now, in 2020 the Molinete Museum opens its doors to public, showing more than 20 years of archeological research concerning the Roman remains of Cartago Nova.

Pathé Foundation / Renzo Piano Building Workshop

The art of inserting a building into an historical city block means engaging in an open, physical dialogue with those already there. Building onto an extant structure also presents an opportunity for a more widespread renovation project, a reclaiming of space. The new headquarters of the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux-Pathé is an unexpected presence, a curved volume one glimpses floating in the middle of the courtyard in which it sits, anchored on just a few supports. On the ground, there is a stand of birch trees, a floral island set in the dense mineral context of the city.

Cheops Observatory Residence / Studio Malka Architecture

Located on the plateau of the Giza Necropolis, the project is nestled in the village of Nazlet El Samman. This ancient site was founded in the 7th century by desert tribes fascinated by the Pyramids; the village is a preserved site, a whole journey through time, and the common transport is still horse or camel ride. Restoring this village creates a bulwark against the massive tourist influx and the real estate speculations that generate tabula rasa in these historical districts. The Cheops Observatory is also an artist’s residence, a gateway at the entrance of the desert, an inhabited belvedere at a walking distance of the largest of the pyramids of the Giza plateau.

The preexisting condition. The patrimony building, located in the north-west intersection of Santa Fe’s and Italy street of Rosario`s city, was built at the beginning of the twenty`s century. It consisted of a formally uniform ensemble of nine houses situated at ground and top floors, compounding one of that popularly known as houses for rent, they were rented for several uses until the first decade of this century, when they became crowded guesthouses, for people who rented the rooms because of its special urban position.

The project is located in the centre of Toulouse, in the Montplaisir neighbourhood, between the Canal du Midi and the botanical gardens of the Jardin des Plantes. Its proximity to the Radoub Basin, created in the 19th century between the canal and the railroad for the maintenance and repair of barges, puts the project in a protected historical monument zone.

In Baena, Córdoba, restoring its XII century castle has acquired a major characteristic, as it is one of the largest and most important projects of architectural restoration. Granada native José Manuel López Osorio was the architect commissioned to lead the whole process, which as he points out, “seeks an integrated vision of heritage that considers both the consolidation and enhancement of its historic structures, such as the ability to integrate the urban areas where it is located into global processes of revitalization.”

Dept W Store / BuckleyGrayYeoman

BuckleyGrayYeoman has been involved with design proposals for the former Wickhams department store since 2012. Aware that that this city-fringe neighbourhood would attract renewed interest with the opening of the Elizabeth Line station at Whitechapel, our client (Schroders Real Estate) sought to restore the Wickham’s building to its former grandeur, reworking the space to suit a mixture of uses including offices on the upper floors and retail facilities at street level. We were asked to carry out an extensive refurbishment of the building to create a high-quality and refined office space that was sympathetic to the building’s heritage.
