The San Juan Ernesto Pugibet Market / a|911

March 27, 2021 Valeria Silva 0

The San Juan Ernesto Pugibet Market is widely renowned nationally and internationally for its specialized gastronomic commerce. It is a benchmark for this type of tourism between locals and foreigners, and provides resources to chefs and students of this subject. It is located at Mexico City’s Historical Downtown, beside the Alameda Central, in what once was the cellar of the old cigar factory “El Buen Tono”. It has developed its activities for almost sixty years inside a building that, in principle, was not designed to function as a market. Previous to its intervention, it presented physical and infrastructural conditions not optimal for its performance, as well as signs of temporary deterioration.

The historic home of the Prince Bishops of Durham, Auckland Castle is one of the most important and best-preserved bishops’ palaces in Europe. In 2012 it was taken over by regional charity, The Auckland Project, and has been transformed into a faith, art and heritage destination of international significance. Auckland Tower in Bishop Auckland acts as an access point and gateway to The Auckland Project, a new visitor destination in the North East of England. The building provides ticketing, information, and orientation for the refurbished Castle and new Faith Gallery. The tower offers views over the town and landscape beyond.

Castle Grad is one of the biggest castles in Slovenia. It lies in the northeastern part of the country and is very well connected with both neighbouring countries Austria and Hungary. It is a huge structure. Legend says it has 365 rooms, equal to 365 days of the year in three storeys developed around a central two-level courtyard.

We always worry about the well being of the people who will inhabit the spaces that we design and hope to see built. To inhabit is to occupy those spaces and to perform the vital functions of comfort, of work or pleasure. In reality, it is to do with ordering and giving form to functions.

The commission focuses on restoring 8 floors of 150m2 of a residential building built in 1872 located on Montcada street in Barcelona. Vilely shaken plants pose a meticulous archeology work, in which it is of interest to strip all the added hairpieces to see which elements still have the privilege of lasting over time.

Conversion of Former Slaughterhouses / SAPIENS ARCHITECTES

July 27, 2020 Valeria Silva 0

On the banks of the Gironde estuary, in Pauillac, the Sapiens Architectes agency is transforming the former slaughterhouses into the headquarters of a wine merchant. Situated between the town and the estuary, this heritage, consisting of four buildings enclosed by a stone wall, has always functioned as a physically and visually closed ensemble. In order to preserve and enhance it while adapting it to its new function, the architects worked on two principles: to open the enclosure to create new porosities and to link the volumes that were previously independent, to create workspaces.

With two towers and a trail, I sought to promote the appropriation and restoration of the Boca Maule Marshland, located in the city of Coronel, in southern Chile’s Bio-Bio Region, by building two lookout towers, aligning, with an architectural vision, the local community, academia, the city council and trekking organizations.

Alfondac Community Warehouse and Guest Housing for Travelers / Aixopluc

July 14, 2020 Valeria Silva 0

Al-fondaq is an Arabic word for a building that is both an overnight stay for travelers and traders, and a community warehouse and trade for surplus grain. It is the spatial prelude to the market. It is the direct ancestor of the word ‘fonda’. This name is a tribute to the Muslim heritage of our territory of the Camp de Tarragona. Alfondac is a guest house scattered in several places, far from each other, so that each can become a stage for your own journey. Alfondac is not a new hotel concept, it is an archaic idea. A founding act of architecture is hospitality. Welcoming other people, foreigners or friends, strangers or equals.
