D+N2 House / DP+HS Architects

September 1, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

Being an extension house project of the previously designed house by DP+HS Architects, this was a notable project due to its strong presence and unique brief. The clients wanted a tailored home that was sumptuous yet subdued, having the quality of outdoor activity yet enclosed and a private atmosphere. Due to its nature as an extension house, the program is quite straightforward: a collection of rooms to support the activity of the main house, which are a swimming pool, sauna, lounge, playing room, and basketball court.

Old Stable Restoration for Giopato & Coombes / Studio Plazzogna

The intervention consists of two parts: the restoration of the old stable and its expansion. The new body was designed in continuity with the existing volume and does not follow the shape, maintaining the same dimensions in height, depth, and length. Between the two buildings, placed parallel to each other, there is a necessary offset to respect the minimum distance from the border. The two bodies are connected by a lower volume with a flat roof that forms a single element with the window that closes the old portico: it acts as a trait d’union between the old building and the new one.

The existing portion consists of a building with stone walls, inserted in a once rural and now more densely urbanized context. The building is located near a historic street which represents one of the few entrance roads to the town. References to ancient buildings coexist in this place in contrast with the more recent residences.

This single large room is dedicated to one function, to enjoy a private collection of art. Inserted in a steep slope of a garden of a villa in Brussels, the room connects the two different levels on each side of the building. On the higher level, the sliding door opens to a steel platform and a spiral stair that takes you down from the street level to the lower garden level. On the other side, a large window gives way to a roofed terrace overlooking the garden.

Tartan School / MoDusArchitects

August 16, 2024 Pilar Caballero 0

Architecture office MoDusArchitects www.modusarchitects.com has unveiled the Tartan School, an extension to an existing school building located on the outskirts of Terlano’s town centre, nestled in the Adige Valley between the South Tyrolean cities of Bolzano and Merano. Tartan School is both a renovation of, and an intervention to, an existing school—an unwieldy 1990s U-shaped structure that had been modified in the early 2000s and that, like many small-town schools, combined a number of different programs into one. To accommodate the growing population, the township of Terlano decides to enlarge the school and opts to maintain the existing structure while adding onto it.
