Commune Apartment / roomdesignburo

September 21, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The inspiration for this project was 1930s interior designs. Vladilen, the client, shares with Room Design Buro the appreciation of Bauhaus art school, modernism, and Russian constructivism movements in architecture. Before we began working on the project, we carefully investigated photographs from Vladilen’s trip to German, where the design and architecture of Schminke House owed him the most. That helped us to translate and apply some of the principles to the interior environment and spirit of this era. 27m² is not an easy task, but it is a common issue to solve for our Buro. The challenge was to create a comfortable space for one person to live in without compromises. The design includes a full-size shower and fully functional kitchen. Additionally, there was no compromise to the size of the bed, which is 200cm X 140cm, along with a hidden workspace/desk.

The Modern Residential Towers / Elkus Manfredi Architects

The Modern is a mixed-use residential development at the foot of the George Washington Bridge in New Jersey. It is a major landmark for Fort Lee and a catalyst for significant future growth in the surrounding area. Rising from a podium above the Palisades and the Hudson River and clad in sleek glass curtain wall, the two structures make a striking statement, clearly identifiable from Manhattan, that speaks of the clean, classic lines of timeless design and the drama of their natural setting. Magnificent views and the promise of a cosmopolitan lifestyle in a mix of residences with unmatched private amenities, in combination with easy access to Manhattan, make The Modern a highly desirable destination along New Jersey’s Hudson River waterfront.

Clifton House / Idle Architecture Studio

The warehouse buildings of Clifton Hill are derived from an industrial heritage that housed the workers and craftsmen of the era. Their use of solid materials and punched windows creates robustness and singularity of form. In many instances, these historic two and three storey warehouses (many of which have been converted to residential use) sit adjacent to contemporary apartment buildings and Victorian and Edwardian-era single-storey dwellings, establishing complex, and sometimes awkward interfaces.

CYTA Building / ARCHETONIC + ATIKO Arquitectos

September 18, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

CYTA is located in the heart of Hipódromo Condesa, one of Mexico City’s most vibrant and shifting neighborhoods. The buildings’ design solution insistently looks for a careful integration with the natural and urban environment The façade is composed of balconies and terraces with plants–in pots that are integrated to the structure, and Irving wrought-iron screen, and sober framings. The façade coexists with its surroundings and the trees that face the street. The vegetation of the city intertwines with that sprouting from the building creating a harmonious experience with the outside, both for the user and the building. One of the neighboring buildings was classified as a heritage site; this led us to shape our volume to achieve a striking gesture of integration.

Bachledka – Summit Facilities / Compass Architekti

September 18, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The site is located at the top of Mala Poľana on the ridge of Spišská Magura. The area provides a variety of activities such as skiing, hiking, biking, and a sightseeing route – The Treetop Walk. Up to 6,000 visitors a day come here on certain days. The aim of the proposal was to provide facilities for these activities. Access to the site is provided by the tourist route or by three cableways from adjacent villages, Bachledova dolina, Malá Franková, and Jezersko. We tried to minimize the mass at the top of the hill, leaving only the necessary cableway control and the treetop walk exit object. The rest of the building is embedded into the hillside and the only visible facades are those glazed, providing light and a view of the mountains. This was made possible by the ideal shape of the terrain – the slope is oriented to the south towards the Belianske Tatry.

Isabel Building / Christian Dávila Arquitectos

La Paz is a city of mountains, the city in the mountains. Along the Choqueyapu river (from north to south and downhill) the city climbs the hillsides and takes over the valleys. One of these valleys is Achumani, a middle-class neighborhood in which the densification process replaces single-family houses for multifamily apartment buildings.

024 Apartment / ŠA atelier

September 15, 2020 Andreas Luco 0

The apartment in Vilnius central station district was resurrected and adapted to today’s lifestyle. In a relatively small living space, we sought the impression of light and spaciousness that would create a calm, light, and caring atmosphere. Upon entering the apartment, you find yourself at a gap between two volumes, after which you are pushed out into the bright and open space of the whole apartment.

Housing Complex Niigata III / Studio Takuya Hosokai

September 14, 2020 Hana Abdel 0

HOUSING COMPLEX NIIGATA III is an apartment building composed of 34 dwellings.  There are a number of traditional Japanese houses still exist on neighbouring plots, and cultural facilities, shopping districts, universities, public offices and a park within 500m.  In order to integrate an apartment block in a location where various programs interact with each other, we considered an aggregate composed of 34 types of dwelling that cater to differing lifestyles. We tried to reconstruct the relationship between inside and outside spaces in collective housing in an urbanized context.  We designed from inside to outside and also outside to inside, considering the separating role of the perimeter wall, the slab and structural frame, and the use of a terrace as a transition zone.

Avenida Novas Loft / João Tiago Aguiar Arquitectos

September 11, 2020 Pilar Caballero 0

An old printing office, in Avenidas Novas, Lisbon, has been transformed into a loft due to a total renovation, illustrating how carefully designed spatial aesthetic solutions can dignify a prior decaying and gloomy space. Vacant for the last 15 years, the space, although with remarkably high ceilings, had lack of natural lighting and ventilation, being this one of the major architectural modifications needed to infuse brightness and intensity into the loft.
