“Layering Yard” is hidden in a traditional commercial block near the Qianmen of Beijing, with an area of about 500 square meters. The original architecture was a quadrangle courtyard commercial building with the characteristics of houses in the Republican period.Compared with residential houses, the houses here are bigger and higher. There is a row of arched doors and windows on the south along the street, and two-story houses on the north. Before the renovation, the housing structure was completely rebuilt; with the courtyard there were no doors, windows or walls, but exposed rough wooden structure beams.

This is a facade remodel project commissioned by a new owner of an old hotel building.  The old hotel was the largest hotel in Luo-dong when it was built in the 70’s.  Luo-dong is a town with a population of 70 thousand, located on the north east coast of Taiwan.  It was historically a center for lumber business of the region and has been transformed to a tourism hub when the timber industry declined in the 80’s.  The original hotel was a successful hotel for businessman at time but has been unable to attract tourists when the tourism develops quickly in the town.  The hotel had been dismal since then for decades.  The mission of this project is giving the hotel a new identity so that the architecture can continue its life through the new era of the town history.

When tracing the history of Shanghai, what occurs to old Shanghainese first is Suzhou River. Industrial buildings beside the river have witnessed the prosperity and decline of concessions as well as the emergence of national industries. No. 1247, South Suzhou Road used to be the private granary of Yuesheng Du and then turned to be the warehouse of Commercial Bank of China established by Du. In April 2017, Chasing Wang who lived in America and Italy restored its façade and internal space, a respect for history.

The hotel is located in Lijiang ancient town, Yunnan province China. The building is under protection of Lijiang heritage due to its old and particular wood structure, but for a few times along the history the building had been renovated with interventions transforming its original layout and configurations.

This is an episode from the Chinese home design and renovation program “Dream Reforms House,”  the designer decided to turn three bedrooms and two living rooms into one bedroom and one living room for parents and children to grow up together to create a shared and open house.

Located at the southwest corner of a previously state-owned silkworm farm in Yucun, Moganshan, Zhejiang Province, the project is connected to the peak of Moganshan Mountain by a mountain trail. The site can be accessed from the northwest corner and the terrain is gradually lowered from the north to the south. There are cottages standing adjacent with jagged outline on the north, whereas the southern end opens up to a panoramic view of a meandering stream.

Located within Bohemian House in the old-meets-new Western District, the project is the second boutique café designed by Studio Adjective, a Hong Kong architecture and interior design agency, for this coffee brand. With an area of 140 sq.m, the store features a bean roasting area and a bean storage. The design team wants to offer a complete coffee tasting experience through the conceptual interior design.

Located within Bohemian House in the old-meets-new Western District, the project is the second boutique café designed by Studio Adjective, a Hong Kong architecture and interior design agency, for this coffee brand. With an area of 140 sq.m, the store features a bean roasting area and a bean storage. The design team wants to offer a complete coffee tasting experience through the conceptual interior design.
