Looking around the whole mountain of Chongqing, and going through the marketing old streets of the city, the partners of Whatever Art Space met the fairy cave for the first time which is even rarely known locally. An old factory space, symmetry with the axis, suddenly appeared, the mysterious site environment with the imprint left by the former work of the factory. Almost in one second, it was set to be our design office.

This case is the social welfare agency – Assistive Technology Resources Center. Renovation of 20 years old building, with poor line, more idle space, obsolete equipment, poor physical environment and hard to approach, which originally non-exclusive serviced of persons with physical and mental disabilities or groups. We expect here to be the base for disabled friends, to reach the intimate service of social welfare, and to take root in the friendly field of social service education and neighborhood interaction.

A greyscale palette of two materials – the washed granolithic plaster juxtaposed with brushed stainless steel, one is rough and dull while the other is sterile and reflective, which formed an austere monochrome space for this two-stories men-wear select shop.

HU University of Applied Sciences / SHL

Until four years ago, the HU University of Applied Sciences, a school founded in 1995 through the merger of several previously independent institutions, was spread across some 30 buildings in Utrecht, The Netherlands. The university prioritized consolidating its footprint into five adjacent buildings on its Utrecht Science Park campus, and Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects’ new structure is the last of the five to be completed. The 22,310-square-metre Heidelberglaan 15 building is home to eight educational institutes in the economics, management, information communication and technology, and media and communication sectors.
