The family residence is located above the market town Silandro, on the south-facing slope of the Val Venosta Montesole Mountain. Nestled on the steep and warm dry slopes we find single and multiple family homes with gardens as well as vineyards. On the opposite side of the valley, the Montetramontana mountain with its flush meadows and forests rises to impressive summits. The valley plain spreads graciously from east to west, steadily inclining to the west towards Resia Pass, here and there interrupted by alluvial fans.

The school campus ‘VZW Vrije en Techniche Scholen Sint-Niklaas and VTS3 BUSO’ is characterized by a variety of typologies and styles. Besides a far-reaching vision for the redesign of the open space into pleasant green recreational areas, there was also a need for an additional building with classrooms and practice rooms.

The challenge of this project was to create a sustainable vacation home on Terschelling, seamlessly integrating into the dune landscape of West Aan Zee while maximizing the breathtaking views. The result is a restrained and intimate dwelling, whose design and material selection harmoniously blend with its surroundings. The metaphor of the “hermit” guided the concept: an ostensibly closed natural structure nestled in the sand, yet upon closer inspection, revealed surprises.

This reciprocal process is a concept we often find in the works of the experimental architecture duo Davidson Rafailidis, whose projects evidence a thorough understanding of the existing form that results in a careful and thoughtful ensemble of dynamic architecture.

Frame House / Théque Atelier

May 17, 2024 Paula Pintos 0

A new house appeared with its black framing porch and facade in Szőreg, the oldest district of Szeged. The house breaks with the bad traditions in the neighborhood that created dark closed interiors close to the woods. The main goal of this new project was to let nature as close as possible to the house, regarding the plot takes place on a loess hill next to nature conservation woods, next to the context of front-gabled houses.

The project of conversion of an original factory hall into offices for Monolot Studio was developed in close collaboration with the client, both in design and on inspection days, during which countless new solutions were created. The investors, Honza and David, the founders of Monolot, are good friends of mine, and we have complemented each other in our collaboration, pushing the design and implementation always a little further towards a better solution.
