NOWSEE Store / Informal Design

October 20, 2023 July Shao 0

Future city – A proposal for community commerce and life. As the times and city landscape keep evolving, our consumption activities tend to be more diversified. The project is a response to CR Land’s vision of creating new-style property scale centers that highlight both community commerce and living experience. Delving into the local cultural context, community experience, and dwelling spaces of Huizhou, Informal Design activated a community space in this second-tier city by breaking away from conventional commercial design. Combined with an innovative property sales center, NOWSEE is conceived as a platform for experiencing future community life. With the intention to redefine the commercial value of community space, Informal Design delivered integrated solutions for site selection, branding, architectural renovation, space, and VI design, and even for future operation management and supply chain.  This gave birth to NOWSEE, a brand-new community-based commercial space. Located beside the sales center of Park View Mansion – a residential community developed by CR Land in Huizhou City, NOWSEE assumes some functions of the property sales center and is an important commercial destination in the community in the long term.

BeiQing Experimental School Boundary Renovation / ELSE

October 11, 2023 July Shao 0

Located in Kunming, China, the project aims to redefine the entrance and boundaries of this campus. The school is a 12-year boarding school with approximately 5,000 students and teachers. The campus is in a typical Chinese urban setting, surrounded by residential blocks mostly built in the early 2000s. However, as is typical for campuses, existing walls separate the school from the surrounding community, creating a small, inward-looking, self-sufficient community. Due to changes in land use and road reconfiguration, the original main entrance will no longer be usable.

Upgrading and Renovation of Dinghao Electronics Building / Nikken Sekkei

September 25, 2023 July Shao 0

This project is a conversion of the Ding Hao Building, a 200,000 square-meter commercial and office complex completed in 2003 and 2008 in Zhongguancun, Beijing, an area known as the Silicon Valley of China. Many IT companies are headquartered in Zhongguancun, and with Peking University and Tsinghua University located nearby, the area has become a major hub of advanced companies in Beijing. The building stands on a corner site that can be considered the gateway to the Zhongguancun area in relation to Beijing’s Fourth Ring Road and also has a landmark presence in the area with two basement levels directly connected to Zhongguancun Station on Subway Line 4. However, the bustling market for cutting-edge electronic components has waned with the changing times, and in recent years, the building has become crowded with small retail stores. In this renovation, we took on the challenge of revitalizing the building as a high-end office space in response to the increasing demand for business functions in buildings.

Power Station Configurator / atelier anonymous

July 17, 2023 July Shao 0

House of Craft –‘Power Station Configurator’, a scaffolding architectural installation, transforms the three-story riverfront platform of Power Station of Art Shanghai into a flexible and changing field. The first thing one sees at the narrow end of the platform is a scaffolding module, while on the larger area behind it, there are more modules, which are lined up towards the Huangpu River, forming a creative exhibition site for contemporary craftsmanship of China. First, this triangle space is divided. The entire space is divided into smaller modules so that the newly placed structure can adapt to the various sizes of various exhibiting items. The independent modules built by scaffolding can be moved and combined. Each module has four sides of curtains which can be adjusted to open up or enclose the display space of a module. The wooden display system designed for each module provides a hidden and unique small space for different sizes of craftwork. It restores the work site of contemporary craftsmen through the display of text, images, videos, etc.
