Longgang Chuangtou Headquarters Tower / URBANUS

October 11, 2020 罗靖琳 - Jinglin Luo 0

After 30 years of rapid development in Shenzhen, a large number of old industrial sites are facing renewal. The traditional mode of renewal is to first demolish, then reconstruct, and this tendency has spread from the city center to the surrounding areas. This project of the Chuangtou Mansion is located in Longcheng industrial park of Longgang district in Shenzhen, where the transformation from industrial plants and supporting facilities to residential and high-tech office areas is taking place. The scope of the design initially covers the headquarters building as well as its surrounding area. We hope to adopt an open and flexible system of urban design to achieve a symbiosis between the old and the new, to integrate the industrial production with the city by incorporating the existing surrounding environment, and to come up with corresponding strategies according to the uncertainties in the transformation process.

The Qinyong Primary School Hotel is located in the southeast of Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in China. The village, which used to be notorious for being a “rotten village” in the 1960s, was transformed under a specific historical circumstance. At the height of the communism movement in the 1970s, the whole village was demolished and reconstructed, and became the first strictly planned commune in the province. The original natural fabrics and traces were wiped out and a grid of townhouses were established with blocks of local sandstone. Meanwhile, the same material was used to build new infrastructure public buildings and such as the village gate, paths, the auditorium, as well as the primary school which has now been renovated into the hotel.

Pushthe glass curtain door open,  the unique C-shape bookshelves with a natural walnut color will be in front of your eyes. The seemingly irregular sequence builds the intimacy of the space and becomes ahighlight in the front hall.  Theinspiration exactly comes from gray tile with a historical sense. The unique and lively arc shape blazes a new trail and subtly divides the forum area. Walking through under the bookshelf is like walking alongside an outdoor eave, or stepping into a rolling mountain. Stepping into the reading space, one could perceive the scenery images different from traditional bookstores and the profound cultural heritage. The bookshelves extend from the space to the adjacent columns, andingeniously catch the readers’ curiosity and guide their route.
