The Coral Villa / HUNI Architectes

March 7, 2020 Hana Abdel 0

“The Coral Villa” is a family weekend retreat, nestled within the curve of Da Nang Bay. It is directly affected by the local tropical climate; hot and humid, with relatively high temperatures. The façade of “The Coral Villa” takes inspiration from local corals, poetically abstracted into the design and construction. The coral pattern is applied to screens made using fiber concrete. The screens act as a sustainable filtering layer, open for wind but preventing glare from sunlight. It keeps the privacy for users, and creates a unique identity home. The challenge in this project was to design a home which is environmentally open, blends in with nature, and yet still adapts to the conditions of the local climate.

The project is located in Mohali (Punjab) a satellite town of Chandigarh.  Chandigarh a is a city designed by le Corbusier located 250km from New Delhi and is a symbol of modernism in India. The site is located on one of central sector road facing one of the busiest  commercial hubs of the Mohali. The brief was to design a working office for a builder who is closely associated with our practice. The office had to be a reflection of both the builder’s execution skills and the design philosophies behind our projects.

TUT House / webe design lab

TUT -The house, in the heart of Tuticorin has a very deciduous character which can be felt as one moves from the rustic exteriors to sleek finished interiors. The layout of the built in the site is consciously distinguishes the inside and the outside. The built is broken down in between three courtyard spaces – the front, centre and the back court. The use of these courts throughout the day is an effortless symphony. The mornings are occupied and served in the front court with the daily dose of news and tea.

On On Nature Restaurant / Studiobase Architects

The linear project site is located in front of the platform of Shi-Gang train station, which was discarded in 1991. The old train line was mainly used for timber transportation. Due to the resource exhaustion caused by the change of lumbering method and the lack of forest restoration, the train line stepped into history. Then the train rail was turned into a bike lane for leisure purpose. In order to respond to the history of the site, we decided to use lam-wood construction as the main design feature to incorporate all requirements in this multi-functional building.

Stark House / Park + Associates Pte Ltd

March 5, 2020 Hana Abdel 0

This project is situated in a typical Singaporean landed housing estate built in the 1980s. The estate is located in an area of interesting and seemingly disparate activities. Within a 1.5km radius, the Stark House is surrounded by other housing estates – both low and high rise, the Changi Prison Complex, Changi Airport, and several industrial and commercial areas.

House Momoyama / Erika Nakagawa Office

This site lies in an old corner of reclaimed mountainside. From the jumble of disparate concrete and building blocks among plants and fieldstone, it is clear that this place has been inhabited for a long time. Right on the edge of a hairpin bend in the road, the site was encircled by a pre-existing wall and revetment, though no buildings stood here. I set out not to simply plant a shiny new building in this vacant space, but to create a novel piece of architecture that would renovate the entire site.

The Centrum Club / Abin Design Studio

March 4, 2020 Hana Abdel 0

Located in one of the largest townships in the country, The Centrum Club’s planning is inspired from traditional ‘wada’ houses of Maharashtra where groups of rooms are arranged around one or many courtyards. In this clubhouse, the courtyard is translated as an activity zone comprising swimming pools and a deck.

Palasvada Residence / Tushar Parikh and Associates

March 3, 2020 Hana Abdel 0

The project started with client aspiring of a small weekend abode to spent time with his family and friend. He was quick to book a piece of land just outside city limits at an easy excess from his penthouse which we had just completed. The brief was clearly in line with connecting to nature, vegetation and use of earthy elements. The client was more than happy and supportive in use of local craftsman and material.

Kavuşma Durağı  _ Convergence Stop –  The most important public spaces of democracy for contemporary cities are squares. Those who live in the city come together freely in these spaces where their differences turn into acquaintances and a feeling of belonging to the city becomes open for everyone. Therefore, cities find a meaning through the presence of squares.
