July 5, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

The design involved a close collaborative process between studioMAS and Arup. The result is a rational design in which architecture and engineering are thoroughly integrated, having been developed side by side from the earliest conceptual stage. The façade, executed using Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), gives the building its distinct identity.

Saukonlaituri Parking Facility / ALA Architects

The City of Helsinki is redeveloping its former harbor areas for residential use. One of these areas, the vacated 100-hectare cargo port and dockyard in Jätkäsaari, right next to the city center, will, when completed, contain housing for 21,000 people and workplaces for another 6,000. As building all the required residential parking capacity underground, below sea level would be restrictively expensive, combined with the aim to reduce street-side parking, the city has commissioned a series of architecturally ambitious over-ground parking facilities to cover the residential parking needs in the neighborhood.

Muskoka Cottage / Akb Architects

July 4, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

Akb Architects has created a multi-generational family cottage clad in rough-sawn cedar boards and cedar shakes to merge with the northern Ontario terrain of windswept trees and Pre-Cambrian bedrock. The 7,500-square-foot residence comprises three interconnected volumes that form an interior of cozy spaces and open rooms with spectacular views of a freshwater lake. The simple, volumetric shapes are distinctly contemporary and embedded with vernacular features that give the house its cabin-in-the-woods appeal, including gabled rooflines with pronounced chimney stacks and an abundance of naturally aged wood.

Elizabeth Mews House / Trewhela Williams

July 4, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

The project comprises a garage conversion and ground floor refurbishment of a courtyard house on a quiet cobbled mews in Primrose Hill, North London. Elizabeth Mews falls within the Belsize Park Conservation Area which means that any proposed street-facing alterations to the garage needed to be carefully considered so as to not harm the existing character of the mews. The repeating wood-paneled doors are a legacy from the mews’ origins as stabling and coach accommodation and remain a key contributor to its overall character. It was therefore felt most appropriate to sensitively repurpose the existing door opening with a carpentry insert.

This private house was built on a plot of land in a residential area on the outskirts of Mondercange, south of Luxembourg. It stands on a quiet street in a residential-type area with single-family housing, integrated into the urban structure of the sector in a contemporary way. Although the shape of the roof is clearly different from the surrounding buildings, it is nevertheless perfectly integrated by the softness of the use of the brick together with the light grey zinc roof material.

Even though the site is situated in a suburb, is a more populated area than the surrounding neighborhoods. A train station, apartments, a market, and schools are located nearby. “Mom’s Garden” is sitting on the outskirts of the town center where single-story shops are scattered along the three-lane road, creating a tranquil street scene.
