Vitra Oudolf Garden / Piet Oudolf

The planting activity for a new garden by the Dutch designer Piet Oudolf started in May 2020 on the Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein. It will take some patience for the landscaping to reach full bloom, but in just a few months visitors will be able to enjoy initial glimpses of the artfully composed wilderness. The 75-year-old Dutchman is regarded as a pioneer for a generation of garden designers who in the late 1980s began to question conventional practices, finding traditional landscape gardening too decorative, labor-intensive and resource-consuming. Instead, they turned to perennial, often self-regenerating plants, shrubs, grasses, bushes and wildflowers, which had been long ignored as garden plants, and favored an equally unconventional layout of the plantings.

The Rüscher Joinery / Simon Moosbrugger Architekt

Introduction – The Rüscher family’s carpentry business, which had been growing for several generations, reached its limits. The aging building structure could no longer guarantee an economical production process. With the increasing industrialization in the craft sector, it is no longer just small hand-held or stationary machines that are in use today. While stables and garages used to be able to be converted into workshops, today the requirements for a “workroom” are extremely complex. In addition to strict requirements for fire protection, accident prevention and hygiene, the most important thing is to give the increasingly complex production processes the space they need.

Rahma Mosque / AWMA

September 20, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

Rahma [Mercy] Mosque is situated in the North Eastern Region of Pakistan, in a small village outside the city of Mardan. Mercy [Rahma رَحمة] is linked to the Arabic word for womb [Rahmرَحم], and resonating with numerous references in the Qur’an, Rahma signifies God’s boundless compassion and mercy towards all creation. In conceiving this architectural marvel, we aimed to blend elements of tradition with innovative expressions of mercy found in prayer, community, and spatial design.

The Hinterhaus Restoration / Simon Moosbrugger Architekt

September 18, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

New spatial vessels were integrated into the back of this well-preserved Bregenzerwald house, which playfully complements the centuries-old building type with high-quality and contemporary lounges. The new building shell appears deliberately reserved and unspectacular compared to the old building at the front. It is only when you enter the elevated crest that you can see the unconventional interior for the first time. From there you can access the building with traditionally very low ceiling heights of around 180cm via the small front door of the old building. The entrance area with the cloakroom, which acts as an access zone, leads to the new rooms in the rear building. While the office assigned to the Schopf is located directly adjacent, the upper floors are accessed via a historic, narrowly winding staircase to the upper floor where there is a seminar room, guest toilet and a bathroom.

The Pool House / Simon Moosbrugger Architekt

The pool system docks geometrically precisely onto an existing carport and adopts its construction grid, which is rhythmically highlighted by the galvanized steel supports on the facade. A fine, fabric-like privacy screen made of standing and lying wooden slats is integrated in between. This allows fresh, cool ambient air to flow through and at the same time offers a sufficient level of privacy. Textile curtains close the outside space designed as a courtyard towards the house.

The Trailblazer House / Citizen Design

September 16, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

When this picturesque 18-acre site was purchased in Maple Valley, Washington, the owners wanted to create a unique home designed around their family and lifestyle. The home represents the family’s personal style while achieving a balance between connection and privacy. The Trailblazer was designed to be a striking contrast of gabled forms nestled between trees and wetlands. The four primary volumes, clad with Shou Sugi Ban and black corrugated metal, each serve a different programmatic function for the home. The volumes are connected through a series of light-filled breezeways that provide visual integration with the landscape and emulate walking through the woods as you pass between spaces.

Le Sauna de Veillac / Atelier AJO

September 15, 2023 Hadir Al Koshta 0

Le Sauna de Veillac is a little participatory construction made with friends that took place during the summer of 2020: a project designed in a simple way and built mainly with wood from the neighboring sawmill. Grew out of a dream mentioned during a family dinner, the sauna is another of past and future interventions for a special site: Veillac, a family domain in the countryside of Aveyron (south of France).
