The intervention plays an important role in favor of the safety of the artistic heritage and the interest of the services offered to citizens. The project proposal aims to resolve the problems related to the seismic adaptation of the building and its recovery.
Calgary’s BMO Centre at Stampede Park is ready to welcome the world, officially becoming Western Canada’s largest convention centre with the grand opening of its 565,000 sq. ft. expansion. Following decades of planning and four years of construction, the over 1M sq. ft. Tier 1 convention facility opens its doors for the first time, not only creating an architectural landmark for Calgary but making gatherings even greater with the ability to host a scale of convention the city hasn’t been able to previously accommodate. “For four years, we have been promising that the expanded BMO Centre will offer Calgarians, southern Albertans and visitors to our city a greater way to gather. Today, it is with immeasurable pride that we open the doors to the BMO Centre at Stampede Park,” said Joel Cowley, CEO of the Calgary Stampede. “The BMO Centre expansion was built for Calgary and southern Alberta, with the vision of creating a world-class facility both in terms of design and the ability to provide exceptional guest experiences through our signature western hospitality. With the interest we’ve seen from the meetings and conventions industry before the doors have even opened, we know that this facility is going to have a positive impact on Calgary’s economy by bolstering the tourism and hospitality sectors. We built this for our future, and we look forward to realizing the success of the expansion in the decades to come.”
Located in the wooded, mountainous region of the Laurentians, Quebec, the piece of land presented by the clients posed significant challenges from the outset of the project. Only a small buildable footprint remained once zoning setbacks, environmental factors, and a minimum of privacy from the road were considered. The result is an area of land defined by its nearly 45% slope.
In this project, that chaixetmorel. realized together with real estate developer VINCI Immobilier, it was necessary to master the balancing act between preserving the existing building, creating suitable accommodation for the athletes, and then continuing to use it as offices for a ministry long after the athletes had left. Chaixetmorel. built a contemporary, innovative, and modern ensemble on an area of around 68,000m2 that houses apartments as well as service, training, and storage facilities. The architects succeeded in integrating the architecturally exciting industrial buildings from the beginning of the 20th century (the Maxwell Hall) and its engineering building (the Copernic Pavilion) into the new use. The campus is structured around them, along a strong east-west axis that forms the heart of the new site. A timber hybrid construction method was used for the new buildings. Many existing materials were reused on site (e.g. demolition concrete in the wire ballast boxes of the new plinth zone) or were taken from demolished buildings elsewhere and given a new life cycle (e.g. raised floors in the office areas). The CO2 footprint was already reduced by around 40% compared to similar projects during construction and will also result in significantly lower energy consumption during future use – first as an Olympic village and later as office space.

By converting and adding to a former fire station from 1940, a new elementary school for 1000 pupils has been built in the Stockholm suburb of Midsommarkransen. A schoolyard with a playground inspired by hexagonal forms found in the existing building, and areas of kept natural landscaping has been created on the premises bordering nearby Enbacken Park, allowing for shared use between the two.
Inspired by the basalt rock formation of California’s Devils Postpile in Yosemite National Park, Henning Larsen’s design of Visa’s new Market Support Center has taken its final form. The 13-story tower is one of four buildings in Phase One of the multiphase Mission Rock neighborhood. The Visa building is an architectural centerpiece, establishing the neighborhood as a new place to work, play, and live.

Sa Taronja is a unique place in the town of Andratx, nestled at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains on the island of Mallorca. Up until the late 1990s, it was the largest chicken farm in the Balearic Islands, established in the 1960s by the Burgos family. In 1997, a German painter named Hartmut Usadel was passing by when he saw a for-sale sign on the farm. Inspired, he bought it and turned it into his art studio. But Hartmut’s vision didn’t stop there. He transformed the farm into an informal gallery and cultural center, welcoming artists from around the world to create and showcase their work. The three original 80-meter-long chicken coops became studios, a gallery, and even a small theater. One of the center’s crowning moments was hosting a concert by the Berlin Symphony Orchestra. After Hartmut’s passing, his close friend Tina Horne managed the center until 2017, when a new owner took over with the vision of continuing Sa Taronja’s cultural legacy. Stepping into a space with such a rich history was quite a challenge.
The Masaryčka building in Prague is defined by circulation routes which will provide access to new civic spaces for the city. Accommodating the continued growth of the city’s corporate sector with office spaces designed to meet 21st-century working patterns, the 28,000 sq. m Masaryčka office and retail development incorporates seven storeys within its eastern section and nine storeys at its western end. Integrating with Czech Railways’ modernisation of the historic Masaryk Railway Station is creating a new public square partially over the railway tracks, Masaryčka’s design will enhance accessibility to the railway platforms below and provide new pedestrian routes between Florenc and Hybernská on either side of the station.
