1. Reflection on “Sharing”
Though born from the good intention of resources conservation, green commuting and making life more convenient, shared bicycles are becoming “monsters” under the unbridled commercial sprawl. They have consumed plenty of industrial raw materials, encroached on scarce urban public space and been dumped in horrible piles.
Transparent Hutong No.3 / DAGA Architects
DAGA Architects is invited by Beijing TV’s “NuanNuanDeXinJia” program again to redesign the new Hutong project. In the past two years, DAGA Architects has made many attempts in the renovation of old houses in Hutong, aiming in finding a balance between modern and traditional. While improving the life quality of the owners, they can also get more abundant and unique experience in the cramped small space. In addition to present effect, it focuses more on exploration of the possibilities of integration on classic and new styles.
UR London Flagship Store / DOMANI
In 2017, Zara closed its biggest flagship store in China, H&M had continuous declination profit, Topshop announced that it would temporarily leave the domestic market, in the past two years, international fast fashion retailers are growing at a slower pace, meanwhile, UR China, the leading fast fashion brand are expanding worldwide, it is the first Chinese fashion brand in Westfield Mall, west London. This store is not only the first flagship store in Europe, but the largest UR flagship store in a globe scale, what else it is with no doubt thelargest commercial milestone for Chinese brands in overseas single stores.
Tree Desk Garden / Da landscape
In the real heart position of SES campus is a yard in square shape, it is surrounded by the buildings of Teaching Building, Complex Building, library and corridor, etc. Compared with the popular space, such as the nearby Sunshine Studio and terrace atrium, etc., the closed green land forms a sharp contrast.
Wakeup Academy / SU-CHI EXPRESSION
Wakeup Academy is a styling, fashion spreading and educational organization based in Hangzhou. The original space cannot reflect the vogue of haircut industry. The Bob Haircut will reveal the greatest charm when the hair is cut at a 78-degree angle, going from the longest lengths at the front, to the shortest lengths at the back. Inspired by Bob Cut, SU-CHI organized the whole space with a 78-degree path which is the backbone of the interior circulation, extending from the entrance to inner classrooms, from the first floor to the second floor, energizing the space, directing perspective, orchestrating people’s performance and creating communication.
Shenyao Art Centre (Phase I) / Atelier Liu Yuyang Architects
Overview
Located in Jiading District of Shanghai along Jinghu Highway, the project is a renovation and regeneration of a series of decommissioned industrial factories and annexes from the 1990’s. The design adopts the idea of “unglazed fragments of porcelain” to generate the formal language of the façade intervention as well as the interior spaces. Preserving the structure and the relationship with the site, the design brings a creative atmosphere and new types of programs by adding steel structures within the original industrial spaces. The large volume of enclosed and deep factory spaces is opened up by a newly inserted landscape corridor with a glass canopy to connect the front and back sides of the site, maximizing the usage of interior spaces for people and businesses.
Xuzhou Constellation City Apartment Sales Office / odd
This project is located at the crossroads of the busy street in Xiyuan, Xuzhou. Xiyuan is an old area with a dense population and busy atmosphere, however, there are few public spaces in the surrounding area.Although the starting point of this project is the sales office, it is intended to provide a free and open space for the surrounding residents, especially children and families.
Jinhong Middle School Gymnasium / Le Architects Studio
Unlike most Chinese secondary schools, which are planned and completed one at one time, jinhong middle school is a school that grows and changes over time.Because of this, the gymnasium does not have the same prominent position on campus as most schools. It is located in the southwest corner of the campus.
Aranya Café / odd
This smoothly curved big-hat-like building is built in the park of Aranya district, which is aiming for a simple and fine lifestyle resort community for along Gold Coast. The site is adjacent to the sand dune formed by sea breezes after a long period. The design’s inspiration comes from a gentle breeze from the sea. The wind is one of essential natural elements to helps people chill-out, which is suitable concept for the resting place project.
