One day in August 2018, a friend came to us and said they wanted to build a beachside hotel, while their old house was under construction in Zhujiajian island, Zhoushan. The couple are both filmmakers, they fascinate in the peace and simple lifestyle of the fishing village in the old times, and always want to do something for their hometown.
Located in the heart of the National historic and cultural city of Suzhou, Gusu Districtis home of numerous garden monuments with its over 2000 years history. 2018 Suzhou International Design Week was held in Gusu district, andMAT team was invited to design a pavilion for this event, as one of the most important public space in the design week. The pavilion undertakes information release, cultural salon and other public activities during the design week.
Haining International Campus of Zhejiang University, which covers an area of1,000 mu and is based on the “boarding academy”, has been fully operational since October 21, 2017 after nearly five years of planning and construction.
This project deals with the conservation and extension of Xianghui Hall at Fudan University. Xianghui Hall is located at the conservation area of Fudan University. It is a key historical building, which witnessed the development of Fudan University and held many academic conferences as well as political meetings including the visit of the former US president Ronald Reagan to China in 1984. It is also once the appointed background of the graduation photo of Fudan students. However, as time goes by, it has lost its original importance. Except that the second floor still acts marginally as the ceremony hall, the ground floor has become the place for storage, renting facilities and retailing. The conservation of Xianghui Hall is intended to reveal its historical value, use value and cultural value.
Located in the southern end of the Guangzhou new central axis, near northeast of Xingguang Bridge in Haizhu District, the project consists of the residential land in the north and the riverside public green land in the south. The latter is led by the owner to build a riverside park with the consent of the government. Among them, there is a public gallery which has been completed and soon be made public.
A gentle recluse, this six bedroom lodge nestles in the cool wooded hills of NanShan high above the heat of busy Chongqing City. The project, initiated by a group of Chongqing residents, builds on the rising demand for casual ‘MingSu’ culture and ‘slow life’ which is expanding as counterpoint to the Chinese 24/7 work pattern in fast-growing cities.
Future Bookstore is located in Guli, Changshu, Jiangsu Province. Study of architecture is the key to open the conversation about future under the historical circumstances. The client, Future Bookstore had a vision that this newly built bookstore can uphold some non-traditional function within such traditional context, exhibit books at regular periods.
Ideal Land is built in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. The total site area is 4,000,000 square meters for residential community. “Community Construction” is the key value of this project. The Land-Art & Culture Center is located at the center area, north of central park, which is embraced by north, east and west city road.
The design concept of the vertical beam society is carried out from the three basic functions of the link “old sugar factory reserved area, podium garage, platform corridor”. Under the principle of retaining the space texture of the original factory area, the new building and the old building are precise. Harmony and coexistence creates a comfortable consumption scene. The core reserved area is centered on the “Factory Director’s Office” built of stone, combined with the boundary of the newly-built residential parking lot, and “adding a small yard” to create a bumpy interface.
A brand is a tool of cultural communication. In the interior design of HEYTEA store at Hongqiao Xintiandi, we chose space as a medium and try to find the core of emerging brands of tea drinks from local market, and to establish a unique identity of this pioneering brand.
