IN-SIGHT House / TOUCH Architect

April 4, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

An existing structure of a 3-storey townhouse had to be converted into a new home for a couple with a baby. There is no enough space for raising their child, together with some disadvantages from this type of building which has no green space area and natural sunlight, thus, the primary concept is to create more space which can allow for natural daylight, natural ventilation, and garden inside.

Fifty Fifty House / Architecture Architecture

April 3, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

This Murrumbeena extension is partly inspired by its original 1950s suburban home and partly by the modernist Case Study houses of the same decade. 1950s meets 1950s. About half of each. We’re talking fifty-fifty vision. That’s sharp. The original house is in good condition, has great charm, and is characteristic of the area: it’s fully detached, has a gabled slate roof, red brick walls, white fenestration and features stepped corbel details. Extending to the side and to the rear of the house, it was decided to retain as much of the original as possible and to honour its virtues with a contemporary interpretation.

Grant House is the alteration and addition to a dark and narrow single-storey terrace in North Fitzroy. The old part of the house has been respectfully maintained and updated and a new extension has been sleeved between original boundary walls. The new extension comprises kitchen/living/dining (and secret cellar), with parent’s retreat upstairs. Utilising the side laneway, the main entry is now in the centre of the house. A large and imposing galvanised steel door opens onto a light-flooded courtyard that separates the old house from the new addition.

Barnhouse / Objekt Architecten

April 3, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

To demolish or not? That was the key question the architects had at the start of this project. The clients could not agree on the preservation of the old barn next to their house. She wanted to preserve it, he wanted to start from scratch with a new construction. Objekt Architecten combined best of both worlds and came up with an unusual, surprising design. The characteristics and qualities of the old barn were defined and combined as an added value to the new volume. The roof and inner walls of the old barn were demolished and made room for a new concrete construction. Concrete offers the right esthetical result in combination with the old brick walls by which both materials reinforce each other. Facing the budget and therefor searching for a logical way of building, the architects chose to use the structural work as a finish.

Duplex Batataes / Atelier Branco Arquitetura

Located in the neighbourhood of Jardins, São Paulo (BR), this brand new apartment was handled to the client completely empty and with no infrastructure by the real estate developer. A double height space of 35 sqm floor plan was the only and great quality asset given. It was required to Atelier Branco in 2016 to design a fully functional apartment for a single person use. So the main creation was the mezzanine, that would give enough area to have a bedroom and study room together with a living and dining rooms, altogether in a fluid space and a continuous circulation.

Oosterwold Co-living Complex / bureau SLA

April 2, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

In the rural area of Oosterwold, artist Frode Bolhuis dreamed of an alternative way of living. He asked architects Peter van Assche and Mathijs Cremers to design his dream house on a one-hectare potato field. The only problem was his very limited budget. To find the solution the architects came up with two preconditions to make the project possible: they suggested finding friends to join the project, since it is a lot cheaper to build several houses at the same time than just one. Luckily, Frode was able to find eight friends who shared his dream. The second precondition was that only the exterior would be designed, leaving the families complete freedom to decide on the interior. The limited budget became key feature in the project and resulted in a straightforward 100-meter-long slab containing a row of nine unique dwellings. The position of the building on the side of the plot leaves maximum space for the community garden.
