Maison Atelier / YH2 Architecture

The project reflects the natural evolution of this typical lot of Montreal towards greater densification. Over the last 20 years, the architectural firm has transformed this typical Montreal lot twice: First, with the creation in 2000 of the Maison Tour, a home/studio combination organized around an inner courtyard bracketed by a three-story vertical house and a workshop in a former garage at the back of the yard. Second, with the creation, based on the existing building at the back of the yard, of a second three-story home, the Maison Atelier yh2, independent of the original Maison Tour.

Vault House / Olimpia Lira

The commission was to design a studio for a ceramist, along with a house for her young and growing family. The project had to relate these two programs in order for them to have enough control of one over the other, but at the same time have enough independence between the working and living areas. The primary material in a ceramic studio is clay, which is fired in order to have structure. The same
operation is used for the manufacture of bricks, the chosen material for the construction, which is left in evidence in order to create a crossover between the physical place and what happens inside.

The Garden Above Store / Pistache Ganache

June 20, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

Located in São Paulo, the first permanent ê. flagship store was designed by the Brazilian duo Pistache Ganache. The shop was drawn to create a retail interior that architecturally reflects the young and exquisite spirit of the brand. The main concept, an abandoned pool taken by nature, came from the desire to extend the mall’s garden towards a large window facing the city from inside store. The design process was an exercise of thinking how the mall would be in 100 years from now, possibly becoming a abandoned itself. The idea of a ruin built on the present.

The House of Meche: Workshop of Local Construction Practices / ENSUSITIO Arquitectura

June 20, 2019 Andreas Luco 0

When considering the best way to contribute to the reconstruction after the earthquake of April 2016, it was clear to us that we should not build only for the sake of building, and that the best way to support is to transfer knowledge. When Pacari proposed to collaborate, our position was affirmative, as long as processes of diagnostics and understanding are generated together with the inhabitants, instead of charity and assistance. The reconstruction of the house of Meche, a cocoa producer, was an opportunity to develop a Workshop of Good Local Construction Practices together with colleagues from the sector endorsed as an extension course of the FADA – PUCE. (The Faculty of Architecture, Design and Arts of Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador).

An active family with a love of boating wanted a home on Chesapeake Bay, surrounded by the maritime charm of Annapolis harbor. They found a small but spectacular lot with a house on it from the 1970’s. The existing house did not meet the owners’ needs but its bulkheads and docks provided a unique opportunity: the chance to build a home just steps from the water in downtown Annapolis.
