Villa Amonita Lanzarote / OOOOX

The assignment (or our wish) was to find and renovate one of the Lanzarote houses while respecting the “national” colors of Lanzarote – i.e. white and green. On this Canary Island, there are very strict regulations regarding building height, building density and, above all, its color. Thanks to this, the whole island seems very harmonious – only white architecture set in a lava-black landscape and greenery in the form of palm trees. This combination became the central motif of the entire interior.

The Home in the Badain Jaran Desert / SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN PLANNING, NANJING UNIVERSITY

The Dilemma of ‘Home’ – Many traditional herding families, mainly Mongolian, live on ranches around the inter-dune lakes. In July 2024, the ‘Towers of Sand and Lakes’ landscape of the Badain Jaran Desert was inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. With the ensuing ecological preservation and construction restrictions, how to build homes that meet contemporary needs has become a pressing issue for the local herders. Delved into the vernacular, the designers intend to retain the indigenous building techniques, providing an intriguing possibility for future sustainable inhabitation in such a World Heritage site.

RDS House / Luiz Paulo Andrade Arquitetos

From Diplomacy to Contemporary Family Life. Reinventing an Avant-garde Project, the RDS House has undergone a remarkable transformation, merging history and modernity into an innovative renovation project. Originally designed in the 1960s by Américo R. Campello to serve as the residence of the British Consul in São Paulo, it was later adapted to become the British Consulate in the 1980s. Today, it has re-emerged as a sophisticated home for a 21st-century family.Campello’s design, whose structure was considered innovative for its time, was altered and mischaracterized due to changes over the years. Our goal became to reinforce the original volume by restoring the wide and beautiful cantilevers, as well as expanding the internal spaces.

Sky Castle Kindergarten / SoBA

October 20, 2024 Andreas Luco 0

Kunshan Huaqiao, a key area in the Yangtze River Delta, has rapidly developed into a modern district with a global perspective, driven by its openness and swift internationalization. The client aims to create a landmark architectural node here to highlight the area’s openness and diversity while providing enriched spaces for children’s learning and living. The Sky Castle Kindergarten is a design study born from this vision. Inspired by the vast and dreamy sky, our design seeks to create an environment that fosters endless possibilities and exploration. Through a unique design language, we aim to spark children’s curiosity and creativity, making every corner a stage for them to express themselves and explore the world.

Prototypes are analogous to embryos in different species: While having initial similarities, they singularly transform and create under the effect of rich impulses of life. The creation and transformation are resulted by different relation forces. Therefore, we cannot lose track of these relationships with the impulses of life, while using prototypes. Otherwise, we repeat a dead body: an object in itself, a “tradition” struggling in an absurd rhetorical war with other symbols.

During the design of “The Red Ribbon,” the architects and the artists collaborate closely, ensuring that architectural design fully integrates the ideas of performing art. “The Red Ribbon” is not only an innovative exploration of architecture but also a modern interpretation of historical and cultural connotations. The Long March Cultural Digital Art Museum, designed by China IPPR International Engineering Co., Ltd., located in Guiyang, China, is an immersive digital art experience space with the theme of the Long March. The project consists of six theme-performance spaces and is opened to the public in October 2023.
