School Group Samuel Paty / Ateliers O-S architectes

June 9, 2024 Paula Pintos 0

The Samuel Paty School in Béziers is centered around a strong paradigm that combines massiveness and porosity. Its urban positioning is based on the highlighting of a clean and longitudinal volume that adapts to the site’s topography. In the heart of the Devèze district, the primary school is developed only on a single ground floor, to offer a human-level building scale. The roof is therefore a real facade in its own right, in the sense that it is as visible as the elevations. The sanded concrete materiality then makes it possible to unify these different planes into a whole, in which the composition blends with its volume.

Planes House / Estudio Damero

When designing the renovation of Casa Planes, the challenge was not only the preservation of the built heritage, but also the preservation of the emotional heritage of its owners. Preserving the architectural identity of this typical chorizo house in Buenos Aires led us to enhance the old commercial facade, now projected as access to the new home. Considering the entrance area allowed us to develop the idea of an “urban oasis”: a sequence of patios with differentiated uses that serve as a backdrop for interior living, while suggesting a continuity from the interior to the exterior.

What defines the complete fusion of nature and human-created spaces? How can the timeless Cycladic tradition, untouched by architectural overdesign practices, be passed down through the ages? And what is the perfect ratio for modern living that aligns with the eternal principles of scale? Gundari not only exemplifies but also embodies the synergy between natural and built environments, all while preserving the core architectural proportions in its units.

Hut-Inspired House / Atelier Hajný

The client’s wish was to design a family home on the site of an original holiday hut, which he used to go to since childhood. It was clear that the hut had to go, but its appearance partly influenced the appearance of the new building. The new zoning plan in the entire area is set for the construction of family homes, so the huts here are gradually disappearing. We agreed with the client that due to the character of the area and the sentimental relationship to the original building, it would be appropriate to take into account the appearance and shape of the old hut.
